Acer K330 DLP Projector - Review Summary

Acer K330 Projector: Bottom Line

The Acer K330 provides an attractive option for those looking for a portable projector that’s has decent light output at a reasonable cost.  It provides a sharp, fairly bright image across a screen size of 80” diagonal.  It handles non-native resolutions quite well and displays good color rendition in all but the brightest picture mode.  As we noted with the K11, the lack of a zoom lens causes initial setup to take more time, but that’s the trade off one must make for such a compact sized projector.

On the plus side, the K330’s keystone correction is minimally intrusive and combined with the built-in installation pattern, help make up for the lack of a zoom lens.  Also, once physical setup is complete, the K330’s multitude of picture modes and advanced menu adjustments (including five wall color settings) allow the user to tailor the K330’s color palette to their taste.

At the time of this review, we also had the Viewsonic PLED-W500 in for review.  The Viewsonic is about as close to a clone of the K330 as you’ll find, with similar specs, but at a street price $150 higher.  We found that the K330 had almost identical performance (lumen output and color balance) as the Viewsonic.  The Viewsonic does have a couple of features over the Acer, but I would rate the Acer as a better buy.

Mini LED-based projectors have steadily improved over the past few years and the Acer K330 is proof of that evolution.  With a multitude of projection input options, low price, long-life LED light source, decent brightness and quality color reproduction, the K330 should prove to be a winner in the mini projector market.

Acer K330 Projector: Pros

  • 400 lumen (measured) output is adequate for most lighting conditions
  • 20,000 hour light source life means no lamp replacement for the life of the projector

  • Large number of picture modes and adjustments for a pico projector
  • No dust filter to keep clean
  • Works with iPhone and iPod (requires optional adapter)
  • Can present from SD card or USB drive
  • 3D ready

Acer K330 Projector: Cons

  • Lack of zooming ability and minimal height adjustment ability makes for slow setup
