This article discusses the Casio XJ-ST145's differences.

Casio XJ-ST145 Projector Comparison

Check out our review of the award-winning Casio XJ-ST155 projector.

The Casio XJ-ST145 projector (click for specs) is the sibling of the Casio XJ-ST1555 projector, which we recently reviewed in-depth. The XJ-ST145 is mostly identical to its sibling, though there are a few major differences between the two. This comparison is designed to breakdown what the XJ-ST145 has to offer, as well as whether or not it is a better choice for you than the XJ-ST155.

Most notably, both the XJ-ST145 and the XJ-ST155 uses Casio’s hybrid laser and LED technology, which allows for high brightness and long life – thereby capable of lasting up to 20,000 hours in full power. The long light source life also means little maintenance and virtually nonexistent maintenance costs. However, this technology does mean a higher price tag. The XJ-ST145 is the less expensive of the two, costing $1849 MSRP (versus the XJ-ST155 at $2049).

With this lower cost comes slightly lower brightness, as the XJ-ST145 has 2500 lumens instead of 3000 lumens. Otherwise the two are basically identical. The XJ-ST145 is a DLP short throw projector with a native resolution of 1024x768 (XGA). Short throw means the XJ-ST145 can achieve a fairly large image even when the projector is just 3-4 ft. from the screen…. Convenient if you’re limited on space in your presentation environment. Both the XJ-ST145 and its sibling have contrast ratios of 1800:1. This ensures enough power to handle ambient light in your presentation environment or to fill a screen in a medium-sized conference room or classroom.

Excitingly enough, both the XJ-ST145 and the XJ-ST155 are 3D ready and interactive. Included software allows you to covert your pictures and video to 3D format, which will require optional 3D glasses to view. An optional pen device gives you the ability to annotate on a whiteboard.

The XJ-ST145 is also more than capable of handling sound in said conference room or classroom, as it has a 10.0W speaker. So if sound is important for you, that’s a plus. The XJ-ST145 is also well equipped! It boasts an HDMI input for use with laptops, gaming consoles, satellite and cable boxes, DVD players—everything! This means your XJ-ST145 can present from a large variety of sources, making it very versatile.

Both the XJ-ST145 and the XJ-ST155 also have MobiShow. MobiShow gets you WLAN presentations from your smart phone and mobile devices, plus presentations from your USB thumb drive. Thus, you can present without a cable from your PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod or Android! Talk about prepared. Also exciting and ideal for a university environment, the XJ-ST145 can do wireless presentations, with up to 32 PC’s connected at once and 4 simultaneously active on screen!

That may sound ambitious if you’re just looking for a projector for your mid-sized conference room, but we promise that the XJ-ST145 is designed for the average user and is easy to operate. It’s just that it is also capable of doing much, much more!

So whether you’re shopping for a projector for a university or a small business, the XJ-ST145 has got you covered. It has brightness, sound, interactivity, connectivity, long life and low maintenance costs, thanks to a 3-year warranty and a light source that won’t need replacing… What’s not to love? If you can spring for the slightly higher price tag ($1849), you’ll save a lot of money in the long run, and you’ll have a great projector on your hands.
