Casio XJ-ST155 Projector - Brightness

The Casio XJ-ST155 is bright at 3000 lumens and by its manufacturer rating alone one could easily say it is capable of performing well in the most demanding of environments. The Laser and LED Hybrid technology is truly revolutionary and the estimated lamp life of 20,000 hours certainly makes this an attractive proposition. In light tests, the Casio came up shorter than expected in terms of light output. Light output varies on all projectors depending on whether you are running in bright mode or eco mode. It also varies depending on the color mode. Let's move on and take a look at how the projector performed in the modes.

For each mode I measured first with eco mode and then with the projector set to its brightest setting. In Standard mode the lumen output was 1189 and 1693 respectively. In Graphics mode 468 and 792. Moving to theater mode, when a drop in brightness is expected the meter read 450 and 702 for bright mode. Blackboard proved to be a little brighter at 630 in eco mode and 991 in full bright mode. Game mode came in a little stronger at 720 and 1260 lumens.

Overall, the projector measured to be half as good as what was stated by the manufacturer in its brightest mode. Expect future updates on this issue to see if there might have been any issues with the particular unit or if this is just natural for this very unique light technology. Keep in mind that even the numbers above, although far from spec, are still very good and the image is quite vibrant and readable even with lights on

Casio XJ-ST155 Projector - Audible Noise

When evaluating the projectors audible noise I often look for how many times I noticed the projector working while I am taking notes. The specs for the fan noise are not available, but while running in bright mode the projector sounded like it was running about 33 db. Ultimately it was not a loud fan by any means and is in line with most projectors manufactured today.
