Epson 92 Projector Comparison

The Epson PowerLite 92 is the most basic and least expensive projector in the Epson 90 series, which is designed specifically for education use. The Epson 92 is very much like its most advanced sibling, the Epson 96W, which we recently reviewed in-depth and awarded our Best in Classroom: Interactive Projector Award in this year’s Classroom Projector Report.

With an entry-level price tag (MSRP $649), the Epson 92 3LCD projector is budget-friendly for any classroom but will also give you great performance. The Epson 92 has 2400 lumens and, like its siblings, a contrast ratio of 2000:1. Not the highest out there by any means, but pretty standard for this price point. The Epson 92 also has XGA resolution (1024x768), while its 96W sibling is widescreen WXGA (1280x800).

The Epson Powerlite 92 also comes equipped with a powerful 16W speaker, which is one of the largest sizes available. This is way more than enough to handle presenting to a classroom, and means you don’t have to struggle with external speakers that are an additional cost.

The Epson 92 also has versatile connectivity for the classroom. The Epson 92 comes equipped with an HDMI input for use with laptops and media players like DVD/Blu-Ray players, gaming consoles and satellite/cable boxes. It also has USB, audio out, monitor out, and several other inputs, making the Epson 92 ready for anything. The Epson 92 also has close-captioning and remote mousing capabilities.

The Epson 92 has easy maintenance. While it does have a filter that needs to be changed, there is a message notification feature to let you know when that time comes – very helpful. You also don’t need to unmount the Epson 92 to change its lamp, which is a plus in the classroom environment if you don’t have the freedom to take down your projector when its time for maintenance.

In addition to being easy to maintain, the Epson 92 is definitely cost-efficient! With a 5000-hour lamp life at full power and 6000 in eco-mode, maintenance costs are kept low since the lamp needs replacement less frequently. The Epson 92 also has a 2-year warranty with overnight replacement, which, while not the best, is still a great deal.

What sets the Epson 92 apart from its more expensive sibling, the 96W, is mainly that it is a bit dimmer and lacks the network control capabilities that the other has.

So the Epson 92 has got it all. At an extremely affordable price (MSRP $649 and even cheaper at street price), the Epson 92 comes with enough power, brightness and contrast to handle ambient light in your classroom environment. Its 16W speakers can carry your presentation’s sound throughout the classroom. And its versatile connectivity, including HDMI, USB and an assortment of other inputs, means it is prepared for anything.

If you want a sweet spot of price and performance, the Epson 92 is a great choice!
