CMS Calibration Notes

The HD25-LV has a full CMS, but it doesn’t have enough range to correct the grossly inaccurate color gamut.  Only red plots, and looks good, by default (see CIE chart).  Blue is not bad, but green is way off.  Cyan and magenta are not bad, but yellow has too much red in it.  I wonder if this unit had some issues as many business projectors have better color.  However, with normal viewing, it doesn’t look bad, just a little too red.

Using the CMS, blue and all three secondaries can be improved, but green is limited by the color wheel and really cannot be improved.  Also, if the CMS calibration is done as it should be (minimizing delta luminance for the primaries), skin tones come out way too red.  A compromise was reached by balancing out the primary luminance levels, which makes skin tones acceptable.
