Sony VPL-FH30 WUXGA 3LCD Projector - Review Summary

Sony VPL-FH30 Projector: Bottom Line

The Sony VPL-FH30 should be a top consideration for anyone needing a reasonably-priced, high-output, high-resolution projector.  It offers a terrific combination of brightness, sharpness, color balance and image depth that make it a standout in its price range.  It also features ease of setup and an assortment of connection and lens options that make it adaptable to conference rooms, boardrooms or smaller sized auditoriums.  There is the DICOM gamma mode that should endear it to medical schools and grayscale adjustment capabilities for the advanced user.

The VPL-FH30’s closest competitor is the Epson G5450WUNL, which has the same resolution, optional lens options, DICOM simulation, a similarly rated lumen output and sales price.  The Epson scores over the Sony with network and PC-free presentation capability, more lens options and multi-screen and split-screen capability.  The Sony scores points over the Epson with its higher measured lumen output (4030 vs. 3102 max. lumens) and slightly better color balance.  There really isn’t a great deal of difference between the two projectors.  As the G5450 won a “Hot Product” award, that puts the Sony in good company.  Your choice between the two projectors really comes down to your presentation needs.

While we’d like to see network (and wireless as well) presentation capability, the VPL-FH30 has a solid feature set and terrific performance, all in a reasonably priced package.  In addition, Sony’s warranty and On-Time Support Program are among the best in the industry.  If you need even more brightness, the Sony VPL-FH35 will give you another 900 (rated) lumens, albeit at a much higher price.  Anyway you look at it, the Sony VPL-FH30 is well deserving of a Hot Product award.
