Overview of the Viewsonic PJD6350 Projector

As more network streaming content providers are moving toward wireless dongles that can plug into a TV's HDMI port, providing such a feature on a multimedia projector is very desirable.  Even more so, as projectors of this type tend to be used in schools or businesses where theft of such a dongle could easily occur, having a hidden port is even more important.

The Viewsonic PJD6350 provides such a solution in a reasonably priced, high brightness XGA projector.  Combined with network control capability, 3D Blu-ray capability and a built-in 10-watt speaker using Viewsonic's SonicExpert technology, you get some great features that offset the PJD6350's slightly higher than normal price for an XGA projector.  Add the longer-than-normal lamp life to the equation (5000, 6000 or 8000 hours depending on lamp mode) and you have a very low cost of ownership.

We wish to thank Epson America for sponsoring this year's Best Classroom Projectors report, in which this projector is considered.

As is typical of the Viewsonic projector line, the PJD6350 is one of a family of similarly featured projectors.  At the time of this review, the PJD6552LWS and PJD6352LS are the only other two available.  Both are short throw projectors, with the LWS being a widescreen (WXGA) model.  Also coming later this year are four additional 6000 series projectors (two XGA and two WXGA) that are brighter and have even higher power built-in speakers.

Thanks to its compact size and light weight (4.9 lbs.), the PJD6350 is portable enough to be moved from room to room.  For those who prefer a more permanent installation, the PJD6350 comes with a cable management cover to keep all connecting cables organized and out of sight.

Warranty and Support

Viewsonic offers excellent warranty coverage for the PJD6350, with 3 years parts and labor on the projector and, unlike many manufacturers, one full year on the lamp.  In addition, the PJD6350 is covered for the first year by Viewsonic’s Express Exchange service, which works as follows:

During the first year of the warranty, if a projector requires repair, the end-user calls Viewsonic’s toll-free number and Viewsonic will ship a refurbished unit within 48-hours to the end-user.  The end-user then ships the original unit back to Viewsonic. The refurbished unit carries a warranty equal to the remainder of the existing warranty.

Extended Express Exchange service for the 2nd and 3rd years of the warranty is available from Viewsonic at additional cost.
