Vivitek H1080FD - Warranty

The Vivitek H1080FD home theater projector comes with a one year parts and labor warranty. The average for 1080p projectors is two years, with a few models (all far more expensive) offering three years.

While the Vivitek warranty is shorter than many, it is the same - 1 year parts and labor, as the other two $999 1080p projectors from Optoma and BenQ.

If you want to move up to a longer warranty, there's the Mitsubishi HC3800 a step up, DLP projector, for about $400-$500, or so, (two years parts and labor), the Sanyo Z700 (three years), and the Epson 8100 (2 years, with overnight replacement program in place both years.

Or, you can buy a third party warranty, probably for $70 to $100? Few people are as comfortable (in terms of customer satisfaction) with 3rd party warranties when compared to a manufacturer's warranty. Still, I just don't like the idea of a projector failing 13 months after purchased, not having coverage at that point. Most projector repairs tend to be expensive, so if you have an expensive repair, out of warranty, its quite likely that you would be better served to see what's new out there and buy a new projector, than paying out hundreds to fix a year old projector, and then knowing you still are out of warranty.
