JVC DLA-X70R vs. Sony VPL-VW95ES

Let it be said, I have to consider the JVC to be my personal choice of the two, as a 2D only projector. For those with some interest, however, in 3D, that levels the playing field. I feel that the JVC definitely still has the black level advantage, and it is appreciated. The Sony VPL-VW95ES, however, is the better 3D projector in several ways.

The Sony has plenty of its own strengths as a 2D projector to make it very competitive with the JVC. Let's just say my fanaticism for blacks would have me choose the JVC in a 2D only world. All considered, being the big 3D fan I am, if it came down to it, I'd probably have to pick the Sony, though, overall, for my own use. I think? Talk about a tie...

Basically:

The Sony is the less expensive of the two, and it boasts great blacks because it uses a dynamic iris. However, the JVC's blacks are just a touch better (though it's close, especially in dark scenes)! The Sony VPL-VW95ES is definitely satisfactory though - those are some great blacks regardless.

Color is another issue. This time, the Sony takes the cake - but again, just by a little bit. In close up shots , the Sony is slightly more natural looking (post-calibration).

It comes down to this - if it weren't for the 3D, the JVC X70R might have been the sole winner in the premium price class... But because it boasts 3D, the Sony gives the JVC a run for its money.
