BenQ W1000 - Warranty
3/14/10 - Art Feierman
The BenQ W1000 home theater projector comes with a one year parts and labor warranty. Although the average for 1080p projectors is two years, all of the entry level under $1000 1080p projectors, so far, come with only one year. In that regard, the BenQ is average for warranty, among the direct competition. Move up an extra few hundred dollars, to projectors like the Mitsubishi HC3800 ($1395 MAP) and Epson Home Cinema 8100, and you get a second year coverage.
Sanyo's PLV-Z700 - which is in its second year, is also usually found for under $1500, has a three year warranty.
Or, you can buy a third party warranty, probably for $70 to $100? Few people are as comfortable (in terms of customer satisfaction) with 3rd party warranties when compared to a manufacturer's warranty. Still, I just don't like the idea of a projector failing 13 months after purchased, not having coverage at that point. Most projector repairs tend to be expensive, so if you have an expensive repair, out of warranty, its quite likely that you would be better served to see what's new out there and buy a new projector, than paying out hundreds to fix a year old projector, and then knowing you still are out of warranty.
