Roland, Thanks for the info on Blade Runner. It was important enough that I edited the original article to point out that it is available on HD-DVD. -art

Hi Art,

Warner has released Blade Runner in both HD DVD and Bluray format (not just in Bluray). Both versions have been reviewed by hidefdigest.com already. My HD DVD version of Blade Runner was shipped by Amazon 3 days ago and should arrive any time soon.

You are correct, Blu-ray is doing even better in the EU, than it is in the US. I previously found these two quotes: (the first from Reuters, in late November: "High definition movie DVDs in the Blu-ray format have outsold the rival HD DVD standard in Europe this year, breaking the 1 million barrier and constituting 73 percent of all HD movie discs sold."

and from Japan: A research firm? CEATEC wrote: "indicates that the Blu-ray sales are as high as 9:1 and that there are no HD DVD titles in the top 10 titles.
Other slides in the presentation show increasing hardware support internationally for Blu-ray but little for HD DVD, and also indicate that Fujitsu has ended support for laptops with HD DVD in Japan."

All this contributes to why I think Blu-Ray will ultimately win the war, but of course with total sales of players and titles only a tiny fraction of the potential, anything can happen! -art

What about overseas? I've heard that Blu-ray is way ahead in Europe and Japan. Is that true?
