Joe!

Haven't heard a word from Sanyo about a replacement model. With the launch of three sub-$1000 1080p projectors (Optoma HD20 (shipping), BenQ W1000, and a Vivitek (not sure on the ship dates of those two, but at least one should be very soon), that will have an affect on pricing of other low cost projectors.

All the $999 projectors are DLP, and therefore lack the placement flexibility of the Sanyo and other 3LCD projectors (including lens shift). I can tell you, for example, that the HD20 Optoma, at $999, can't match the black level performance of the Sanyo, and lacks many features. Can't speak for the others. Not sure what Panasonic will do. I suspect Epson will replace their Home Cinema 6100, but Epson is notorious for not shipping new models until very late in the year - last year it was mid-Nov, to late Dec., well behind many other manufacturers.

Overseas sightings have mentioned a replacement for the Mitsubishi HC5500 which was the Z700's primary 3LCD competition, but who's inventory apparently already has dried up (hard to find).

Well, if you haven't pulled the trigger yet, Sept 8 and 9 are when all the announcements hit at the CEDIA show, and that's not even 2 weeks away. You might want to hang tough, unless you find the deal of the century, just so you won't be second guessing yourself.

I am interested in buying the PLV-Z700, but I see it came out about a year ago. Any idea on when the new models might be coming out? I wouldn't want to buy right before the new model comes out, in hopes of either a better projector in the new model, or a better price on the old, previous year, model. Thanks!

Hi Veronica,

We don't sell projectors, only review them. If you are looking to buy one from the US, a number of dealers advertise the PLV-Z700 on our site. Best of luck. -art

Thanks for the review. It is good that you share practical tips for your readers. For example you mentioned:
"Brightness is claimed at 1200 lumens, the same as the Z2000. That said, the Z2000 has been one of the least bright projectors, best suited for 100″ diagonal or smaller screens."

Not everyone would know that the brightness of the projector will impact the size of the screen you can choose. Imagine the frustrations & disappointments of those that try to do this themselves without educating themselves first or asking for a professional help.
