It's weird that people are having this problem. My new 6500ub doesn't have this issue at all...not one bit.

It's sharp as a tac when I fire her up...and it remains perfectly in focus for the duration of use.

I'm not sure why my unit would be any different than anyone else's. I use livingroom mode most of the time(daytime viewing)so it would heat up quickly.

I'm sorry other people are having a problem and apparently they are fixing the issue with redesigned airflow but I'm just not seeing this problem on my unit whatsoever.

Hello,

I have this defocus problem from the start on my 6500UB.

I had this also on my TW2000 and my Panasonic PT AE 700.

I guess, the effect is not unusual, but the extend of the defocus may be different.

Further, I blow up my picture to 2,90m width ( nearly full zoom), which magnifies the problem. When comparing the defocus problem with other users, the size of the projection should be considered. I find, reducing the picture a bit to lets say 2,70m width makes a lot sharper picture, showing less of the defocus problem.

So if some users experience the problem less than others, they might just have a smaller picture.

Of course, I'm very interested to hear about the response from the Epson support.

Best regards

Hi Art,

I contacted my dealer in the first week of january regarding the defocusing and also regarding the overall sharpness (I never succeed - even after adjusting the projector very cautiously - to have a sharp picture in all four corners). He told me that this is caused by the horizontal lensshift which I use for probably 50% of the possible range.
I see this defocussing problem naturally with my mac mini and with the menu screen. And it annoyed me from the start. The focus seems to change with every power on cycle...
Up to now I thought only my unit was concerned and I agreed with my dealer to bring in the unit for observation at the end of the month.
Anyway I'm hoping for a solution.
Besides the issue with the defocussing and the sharpness I like the projector very much :-)

Best regards from Germany

I didn't really realize I had the defocusing problem until I read about it online. I had noticed that I was refocusing, but just thought it was me, since I had been putting the lens cap on since I had some minor construction going on. And I still need to do some adjusting of my mount and the lens shift, so I just thought it was that. I have about 40 hours on mine, and the defocusing is quite drastic for me. It better improve. It's definitely not acceptable at this point, and if it remains will require action on Epson's part.
