Art, Can you provide the best calibration settings for JVC RS2 (or RS1 if not for RS2) and firehawk G3 screen? just bought a RS2 on close out and want to get it humming. thanks

Greetings Peter,

All the calibration info for the RS2 is in the review, General Performance page, under Calibration.

We do a standard projector calibration, not one that takes screen performance into the equation. You may well slightly adjust contrast and brightness, to best match the screen, but the G3 is very neutral, so shouldn't affect color at all. You can doublecheck brightness and contrast with some of the tools found on some blu-ray discs, or pick up a copy of DVE-HD. Actually, you can eyeball the correct brightness and contrast, you just need the right scenes, image or grayscale bars (you'd want a grayscale range with at least 64 steps, for best results. Basically, it's adjusting brightness so that if you lower brightness just one more number on the projector's scale, you see the darkest shadow detail disappear. Contrast works the same way, you want to set it so that if you increase contrast by 1, some of the almost white highlight detail goes white.

Of course if you have bright orange walls, then you have a different problem. -art
