I am not sure that I want to lose that soap opera feel, or direct HD camera look, it makes me feel like if I was in the action, kind of 3D. Like in Transformers, I felt like I was running right beside Megan Fox. WOW.
So, if I install that fix, will I lose all that effect and make the image flatter like the Pany??? Or will I still have the option to turn it on???

Fear not, the CFI changes Epson made seem to be concentrated on the Low settings. No question that with the new firmware, the “live digital video” (or “soap opera”) look still exists in “all its glory” in the high, and to a lesser degree, medium settings. The Low settings however are now essentially free of that effect, which should please most of us for movie viewing. -art

I’d like to send mine back and get a replacement unit that incorporates these two changes, but I’m just not sure when is a good time to do so. Any thoughts, or did you receive input from Epson?

Hi Fred,

I believe all the Epson’s in their replacement fleet should have the physical modification relating to the defocusing, and most likely the new firmware by now.

Easiest way to find out is to call their support on the Private Line number provided on that card that came with your projector. If they aren’t fully ready by now (to deal with both), I imagine it will only be a matter of days.

When you get through to Epson on that line, they have very knowledgeable “level 2″ tech support, and those guys should be able to give you a definite answer. -art

Now this is very interesting. Will this new firmware (v1.09) be published sometime soon for everyone to download? I hope it fixes FI issues and that users could update without sending the unit to Epson.

Please inform your findings soon I wonder if there are other improvements also? Or is it only for fixing FI? I’d like to see faster handshaking with HDMI for example…

Apparently Epson is already offering it. I received one email the day before I got my firmware, from an end user who apparently already got it from Epson support. Have fun.

Haven’t installed it yet, nor even read anything they sent (busy on other things), so don’t know what else. You are right though, the HDMI switching times when there’s a resolution change sure could use improving. -art
