Most Blu-ray Player Software can not only play blu-ray HD movies on PC, but support any movie, video, audio, music and photo you have ever seen. Blu-ray player software is an inexpensive and convenient way for die-hard movie buffs and casual viewers alike to enjoy the latest Blu-ray movies without investing in an electronic Blu-ray player.

John, I suspect side-by-side, but I sent the VP3D1 back to Viewsonic a while back, and that's a lot of projector playing ago. Sorry, I don't recall, but a quick call to Viewsonic might have an answer for you. All I can accurately tell you is that I definitely was enjoying 3D blu-ray using the Panasonic, with no issues. The PS3 was much trickier. -art

Art, when you hooked up the Panasonic Blu-ray player to the VP3D1, was the 3D output set to "Full HD" mode or "Side by Side"? When I have it set to "Full HD" mode I get a message that the player is not hooked up to a 3D display. It only works in "Side by Side" mode.

Also, as for the PS3 problem you had, p6 of the manual says "Go to the "Settings menu → Display settings → Video output → HDMI"." Do you see another screen asking you about the size of your 3D display after that? I read somewhere that you have to choose manual settings and 1080i, not 1080p. (Either way, it never worked for me -- I always get the message that the PS3 is not hooked up to a 3D display. I'm wondering if it works for you?)

Glenn, I just don't know. I haven't have any SVGA resolution 3D projectors here while I've had the VP3D1. I know it outputs at 720p, but I don't know what the BenQ would do with that 720p. This is a question I'll have to defer to BenQ (and Viewsonic). Viewsonic (or Optoma) can probably tell you if they are designed to work with compatible SVGA 3D projectors, then it's up to BenQ to have whatever compatibility... sorry bout that! -art

Gday,

Great Review. I have one quick question I have a Benq MS510 will either the Optoma 3D-XL or the VP-3D1 work with this projector?

Cheers

Hi WL,
No, haven't run across it. I'll keep an eye out for it at CEDIA. At this point, way too much on my plate. I doubt I'd even get to the 3D-XL before then. Of course, most likely within a year, we'll even have 720p entry levels with HDMI 1.4a, but something that adds real 3D abilities to 2D projectors, that sounds interesting, but confusing on their website. It does say any display with 60/120, which does including a lot of projectors, but some use 120 only in frame interpolation, and I have no idea if that has any bearing on the matter. Hmm. Could be very interesting. Wonder if it will work with my RS20. If they say it will, I'll have them send me one for review. -art

Art, have you tried the VIP 3D Theatre which does something similar but for all projectors (not only 3D Ready and DLP)?

Steve, neither projector supports 3D. The Viewsonic takes 1080p 3D content, (including Blu-ray 3D, which requires HDMI 1.4a), and converts it to run on 720p 3D platforms. The similar Optoma 3D-XL, might do better, as it can get 3D out of a pair of projectors, but that's a whole different world - two projectors, two sets of external filters, and a processor...

But despair not, should be a number of 3D projectors (1080p) this fall, starting with the leaked Optoma HD33 and HD3300 (and HD8300)

Dear Sir,
What would the quality of 3D be, if I combined a Viewsonic VP-3D1 & either a Epson 8350 or a Mitsubishi HC-4000.
Regards,
Steve.
