Optoma HD33 Home Theater Projector – A First Look

August 22nd, 2011 Art Feierman

UPDATE: The Optoma HD33 projector review is now posted!

Greetings sports fans,

I’m typing while sitting 10 feet from a 100″ diagonal image of a pre-season NFL game.  I’m watching in the User mode, which Mike set up as best mode,  calibrated to 6500K.  For the 100″ screen in my dark surfaced room, even with all the back lights on (it’s night), the picture looks plenty bright.   Colors Read the rest of this entry »

Epson 3D Projector – Exists!

August 18th, 2011 Art Feierman

8/22 – My apologies. I have pulled down the images of the “rumored Epson”.  I’ve done this at Epson’s request, and I understand their issues, and I’m not here with the goal of being the first to reveal ultra super secret photos of the 2016 Mercedes AMG, or the latest pics of the Kardashians.  So basically I didn’t have a real problem with that.  Well, it was fun while it lasted.  They assure me “accurate photos” soon?

OK, I published some minimal rumors I picked up, just last week.  Today, I have something exciting for you:

One of you readers (thanks) sent me a link to a Read the rest of this entry »

Optoma HD33 3D Projector Review In Process

Optoma HD33 - lowest cost 3D capable 1080 projector

UPDATE: The Optoma HD33 projector review is now posted!

Greetings all!

Following up on yesterday’s brief blurb, the HD33 from Optoma, a $1499 1080p projector enters the market as the least expensive 3D capable so far, with full HD resolution.   With the exception
of their own slightly more expensive HD3300, it seems that all the other 3D capable projectors so far will cost you a minimum of $1000 – $1500 more.

The HD33 may end up being a “twofer” for those into really high performance.   For example, some folks with budgets for big Sony’s and JVC’s – say upward of $6K, may decide that if they want 3D, it makes more sense to pick out the best 2D projector in their price range, PLUS buying a 3D projector like the HD33, for their 3D viewing pleasure, and maybe even sports since the HD33 is still brighter in 2D as well!

Afterall, all those expensive 3D projectors we’ve seen so far, offer only tolerable Read the rest of this entry »

August 17th, 2011 Art Feierman

UPDATE: The Optoma HD33 projector review is now posted!

Just a quick note folks. The HD33 home theater projector is in transit – may even arrive today. This is Optoma’s lowest cost, new 1080p projector to be 3D capable – and 2D, of course. Optoma also offers the similar HD3300 which we’ll touch on in the review. The HD33 full review will post next week, after I publish the annual 1080p Projector Comparison Report, which I’m working on right now! -art

Blog from Outside Lands festival

August 12th, 2011 Art Feierman

Greetings,
No projectors today, as this is the first day of the Outside Lands festival in Golden Gate park. I’m here with Lisa, the daughter, for three days, then across the bridge from San Francisco, to Berkeley where we unload her (and all her stuff) for another year of college.

Should be a great festival with headliners including Phish, Muse, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Deadmau5, etc. Might even blog from the festival a couple of times, but no promises.

Back to the grind, Tuesday night.

Confirmed, one of the new Optoma 1080p projectors now promised before end of this month.
On other matters, I am working on the 1080p home theater report, these days. Part, including the winners, will post late next week.
Hang in there, while we enjoy a few days of great music at outside lands.

Ps. Im a huge Arcade Fire fan (especially their 1st album. I heard Arcade Fire first time at Coachella festival a bunch of years ago…)

Epson 3D Projector In the Works! – Part 1 Rumors

August 8th, 2011 Art Feierman

Greetings all,

Call it a rumor, smoke and mirrors, a future product, and toss in some educated guesses, but it seems almost certain that Epson will have a shiny new 3D projector to roll out at CEDIA and, in Europe, at IFA.     Of course such a new Epson projector will be 2D first as well as 3D, which is typical of all the other 3D projectors.

I’ve been digging, but I can’t even get an Epson model number!  (I could guess, but why bother.)  What I’ve got for you  is better than, but not drastically so, then when Panasonic put out a 1 line press release at Infocomm that they would have a new 3D projector.   (Of course  just two weeks ago, those guys showed it to us press).  With Epson, so far, just a rumor or two.

Word would have it that Epson’s first 3D projector will sport the same 3LCD panels Read the rest of this entry »
