Greetings,
No projectors today, as this is the first day of the Outside Lands festival in Golden Gate park. I’m here with Lisa, the daughter, for three days, then across the bridge from San Francisco, to Berkeley where we unload her (and all her stuff) for another year of college.

Should be a great festival with headliners including Phish, Muse, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Deadmau5, etc. Might even blog from the festival a couple of times, but no promises.

Back to the grind, Tuesday night.

Confirmed, one of the new Optoma 1080p projectors now promised before end of this month.
On other matters, I am working on the 1080p home theater report, these days. Part, including the winners, will post late next week.
Hang in there, while we enjoy a few days of great music at outside lands.

Ps. Im a huge Arcade Fire fan (especially their 1st album. I heard Arcade Fire first time at Coachella festival a bunch of years ago…)

Visit Ron’s blog, “Home Theater and Projectors: The Technical Side” now!

Hi everyone,

It’s time for me to introduce another new blogger on our site. Welcome Ron Jones, below he’s provided a brief introduction to himself, and tomorrow I’ll be posting his first serious blog on the technical side of projectors and related home theater.

I’ve asked him to write a short intro, for me to post here. After that, I want to tell you a bit about what we’re up to, blog wise, and why Ron’s starting to blog for us. So, here’s Ron:

Greetings all:

My name is Ron Jones and I am very pleased to have been invited by Art to contribute to Projector Reviews with a new blog focused on home theater video technology with an emphasis on new technologies, such as 3D, and associated issues/considerations. My background is as an Electrical Engineer (MSEE) with 30+ years professional experience and as a home theater owner/enthusiast for 35+ years. My home theaters have evolved through several generations of CRT front projectors to current micro-display digital projection technology. I plan to start off the new blog with discussions on the transition to a 3D capable home theater and to the technologies involved. I hope to give readers an understanding of the unique factors, issues and limitations that need to be considered for creating a 3D enabled home theater.

As part of these 3D related discussions I’ll touch on aspects of many things, including alternative technologies for providing 3D, screen selection, compatibility of 3D glasses, the role of HDMI 1.4a, and other technical aspects of creating a 3D enabled home theater.

RonJ

And there you have it. Ron’s very focused on 3D at the moment, I’ve already read a draft of the blog that will post tomorrow, which is definitely 3D. To clarify, though, Ron will be taking on a wide range of topics, of which 3D is but one. I expect, though, that 3D will dominate his first month of blogs.

Most of you know we another new blog just a couple months ago, which looks at projectors for gaming, and other games related aspects. I’ve got a plan, it seems, and that’s to grow a small network of bloggers to blog on related topics, and get some critical mass, as I can only do so many reviews, write so many blogs, and answer comments. As a result, I’m (working on building up a select group of blogs and bloggers tied together primarily by home theater, and especially projector related. This could mean as many as 6 new blogs this year, and probably that many next year.

I asked Ron Jones to blog for us, as he has the skills and background to take on some highly technical issues. You all know me, I’m more of the subjective guy, techie at heart, but am more concerned about the bottom line – the end result, than the actual technical reasons.

Enter Ron, who in the past, has been one of the more active folks in terms of commenting on my blog. One thing I admire, is that when he sinks his teeth into a topic, he seems impressively thorough at examining it. Ron, like me, happens to be very into 3D, but he’s a detail guy. I’ve been learning 3D as fast as I can for two years now, but Ron has consistantly managed to provide me helpful information, and he’s corrected me, or provided more accurate explanations than mine, a number of times, which you can find on old blogs of mine. I recall in particular his understanding of polarization issues as it concerns screens for 3D. Until I met Ron (online), my assumption was that if you take two “non-3D” screens, such as the Stewart Studiotek 130, and the Carada Brilliant white. Very similar doing 2D, similar gain, etc., they would likely behave fairly similarly. Ron pointed out, and explained why, that one of those screens could end up producing an image easily twice as bright as the other, with 3D content, because they are very different in terms of polarization retention. I learned, readers learned.

Ron’s been active at providing good additional info, occasionally correcting me, for quite some time, and I simply felt that giving him his own blog, letting him answer your comments, would be a real plus for the overall worth of www.projectorreviews.com.

Point is, he’s into it, and has good stuff to share. So, again, welcome Ron!

Remember, his first real blog – technical, will be posted here tomorrow, BUT, that same blog will appear on his own blog sometime this weekend. As soon as he’s up and running with it on his blog, I’ll pull down the version on my blog, and replace it with a link to his new blog (you will also be able to find a link on our homepage in the BLOGS section (left-center column).

Over the next few months we’re going to be expanding our social networking options. So far, we’ve been pretty minimal, so look for lots of ways to pass on the word about our site and blogs to your friends.

One last thing – we’re going to launch still another new blog – next week, if all goes well. That one will be a second one relating to the gaming world and projectors. More info in my next introduction, probably right after the 4th.

Hang in there, and enjoy the Fourth of July weekend (US), everyone else, hey, just enjoy! -art

Greetings everyone, Sorry I’ve been a bit out of touch. Two weeks of travel in the last 23 days, (from So. Cal, to Hawaii, then a break, then Washington D.C. But I got a lot of work done (and some play). I’m back for a good 10 days, then off to Infocomm, where I expect some interesting home theater projector announcements. But more on that in the next blog or two.

Projector Reviews, you may have noticed, has a “new” homepage. Or rather, the new homepage is based on the homepage we were running several years, until we tried out the recent one using panes, just this past January.

I’m pleased to say that our now current homepage has been updated. It’s better organized than before, and makes things easier to find than the old one from January. In addition all the new specialty landing pages (1080p projectors, 3D projectors, and a dozen or so more), that were launched in the last 6 months, still remain, providing you with additional information and ways to navigate. Each of those provides links to reviews of related projectors.

Before I go further, a quick note on two upcoming reviews: I now have in house two home theater projectors – very different ones, for review. The first is the BenQ W1200, a 1080p projector with a low price point, and plenty of lumens. I fired that one up for the first time two nights ago. You know how I’m a sucker for a nice bright image. Bingo! One of the basketball playoff games, was “brilliant”. But more when I do the usual “first look – review” in a few days.

The second one I haven’t unboxed, but Mike picked it up yesterday to take it back and measure it. It’s the Runco LS-5, a single chip 1080p DLP projector claiming 754 ANSI lumens at D65 for home theater, and 1000 lumens maximum. This Runco, like all the others, is only available through Runco authorized and trained local dealers. Should be interesting!

Back to being a Pane!

Why did we go back to the old style? Afterall, panes are getting pretty popular. They areextensively used in iPad (and I assume, android) apps, so we thought we’d give it a try. We hit two major snags though:

First problem, the way our page was designed, the panes work very poorly on iPads. That’s a secondary problem however.

The big pain with panes on our site, is that google, it seems didn’t like them very much at all, at least the way we implemented them. Since switching, we’ve seen a drop in where we rank on their search engine. We don’t know why, but it was significant enough of a drop, resulting in our first situation in years, (these last 3 months) where our traffic dropped, compared to a year earlier. Thus we were compelled to do something about it. We’ve only seen a small drop, but that’s not a trend we want to see continuing.

So, with the new “old” homepage back, we’re hoping to see a change in direction for our rankings, and the start of a return to our previous traffic volume glory. BTW, the drops haven’t been dramatic (aka disasterous), but enough to raise serious concern. If all goes well, we’ll see a shift in the patterns over the next few weeks.

Not all panes, may be as painful. Once this is solved, we are still looking at a complete redesign of the homepage for the fall. In fact I expect we will use one or two panes, but much smaller ones, and not try to cram multiple pages into one homepage using them. I think that was the real problem with our first attempt. OK, that’s the story for now.

Look for my blog about the new projectors later today.. -art

In our attempt to provide you more, better information on projectors, this week (Monday) we rolled out a newly designed homepage. Projector Reviews now looks very different from before, as we’ve gone to a panes design for the homepage.

Unfortunately, we hit some unanticipated problems, with parts of the design, that didn’t become apparent until our projectors homepage went live.

The good news, is that, as of earlier today, the one really major navigation problem is no more.

Basically, we started with an auto-rotating panes system. You can see into our most recent home and business projector reviews, then about 5 seconds later it shows you the next pane (new press releases), then my Art of… blog (this one), and so on. (we will be changing the order over the next couple of days, so that the first pane will be the Projector Categories – DLP, Pico, Home Theater…).

The thing is, when we launched, if you moved the cursor off the content area of a pane (even if you had just clicked on a panes button) the auto rotate would start right up again, making navigating the center column a nightmare. We hoped to fix in 48 hours – sorry, took almost 4 days.

That’s fixed now. once you stop the auto-rotate, either by clicking any panes button, or by moving the cursor into the center content area just once, pane auto-rotate now (finally) stays stopped.

That was the biggest problem. Now it’s a question of simply improving the navigation experience.

We have these choices I’d like some feedback on:

1. Keep the auto-rotate as it is now (fixed) – (I like it, personally)

2. Drop the auto-rotate altogether (that works too, but I spent a small fortune getting it to this point)

3. Additional features:

I should note, that over the next few months, I expect there will be at least 3 more panes added.

a). One option is to add the usual forward and back arrows for the slideshow (panes). Tony (webmaster) thinks that’s a real plus, in addition to our already pane specific buttons.

b). In addition to a)., we likely could have a pause icon between the two buttons, to stop the auto-rotate temporarily, but we can also

c). Conceivably add a Re-start to the auto rotate (ie. the pause would be a red button, when it’s rotating (with the pause icon in it), and when you click on it, it changes to green, and shows a “play” arrow, instead.

d). Open to other suggestions… relating to the navigation (but any great ideas are always welcome).

NEXT:

What else would you like to see (website wise, rather than particular content)… Any suggestions for better reviews (other than the obvious – such as my actually finishing every section), or asking for an even greater level of measurements (no we will NOT measure contrast – not until a realistic standard method of determining the impact of dynamic irises is worked out. We will be adding at least one, and as many as 3 bloggers in the next 60-90 days, if all goes well. One should be a gamer (hopefully including 3D), one person, perhaps, who wants to write more technical stuff than I have the patience for (or skills), and so on.

BTW, think on this: I’d like to cut down on all the images I provide, mostly for your viewing pleasure. Any thoughts – a current photoshoot ends up with close to 100 photos (including a dozen product and menu shots), out of some 600+ taken (due to all the exposure bracketing). Then final selection usually ends up with about 75.

But, only about 20 are really used repeatedly to make a point – mostly a couple of sharpness ones, black level ones, and comparative side by sides. (Also when we show the relative brightness of different modes.) As you all know, color will not be accurate on the web.

The current photowork consumes pretty much a full day. If I cut things down a good bit, I can do perhaps an extra 3 or 4 home theater projector reviews a year. I see from our analytics, that all the images are viewed a good number of times, but trimming back by about 20 images would speed things up… thoughts?

USE of videos – so far, they’ve been paid affairs – companies pay me to make a video summary of a review. We plan to start posting videos other than those, in the next few months, including some “Advice and Info” videos.

SURVIVING and FLOURISHING: We at projectorreviews.com would love to keep on churning out reviews, and of course to do so, we need to make a living. So far, we survive on advertising (and not doing badly). Finding advertisers, and dealing with that is time consuming, but it gets the job done. Videos, however pose a problem. They don’t plug well into page design, without all those many banners on every page, videos running alone impact our revenue stream signficantly. Any bright ideas how I can do a lot of videos, and not end up poorer for the effort?

BTW there is NO real income stream from posting videos on YouTube.

And anything else you can think of…

Especially, anything wonderful we can do here, to create something that you visitors actually find valuable enough to say, “Subscribe Me” to the extra features, for, say $10 a year. If I could get 10,000 of you to do so ($10 a year), that would really help here, and allow us to grow the site and content – plus, maybe a few more perks for the employees – (wife and daughter and myself, of course). Thanks – just pile your feedback into the comment area. Thanks! -art

Greetings all,

These changes to Projector Reviews, have been a long time in coming. Check out the new home page. It builds on the theme changes we started last summer.

Here’s a quick overview of what we’ve done, why, and how it should make your visits and navigation, more effective.

The obvious change to Projector Reviews, is that we have converted the center column to use a system of Panes. There are currently six different Panes. Each has it’s own square button, just below the masthead. Clicking on any of those buttons will load the appropriate page, and leave it up, until you click on another pane button, or a link, or…

By the way, you can also pause the panes by placing the cursor over the pane content. You can then, for example scroll down the page, reading everything in that pane. Moving the cursor out of the content area, will resume the auto pane rotation feature.

The very first pane is our Projector Reviews pane. That is, it shows you the 10 most recent home theater projector reviews, followed by the 10 most recent reviews of Business and Education projectors. Within the next week or so, the descriptions of each of those reviews will be expanded to resemble the 3-4 lines for each, found on the old home page.

Other panes show excerpts from the most recent blog entries. There are the portions of the 10 most recent press releases for new projectors, and the 5 most recent home theater blogs.

Still another pane features our major reports and articles, including, of course, our annual Home Theater Projector Comparison Report, Our Pico Projector Comparison, and our K-12 Classroom Education Projector Report.

Next comes the Projector Categories. learn more about projectors in categories such as DLP projectors, education projectors, pico projectors, home theater projectors and more. Each category offers you descriptions and links to that category’s most recent reviews.

Finally, we’ve put together a brief on each of 15 well known and most popular projector manufacturers. We’ll be expanding that section over the coming months. BTW please note, some of the descriptions in that pane are temporary, written by a webmaster, and not fully accurate. (As of right now, the LG Projector description would be an example).

Click on any of those manufacturers and you’ll end up on our page for that brand. You’ll find all of our reviews for that line listed, and below that, a full list of all models with links to specs and data sheets. Have fun.

Please forgive, there will be a good bit of clean up, and many dozens of pages needed to be created for all the changes. If you see anything that really makes no sense (like almost anything that FORMER webmaster wrote), feel free to comment. There’s a lot for us to do, and now we’re backed up on reviews!

One more thing. You don’t need to use the Panes to navigate. Note, in the masthead, there are a number of white pull-down tabs for navigation. They will get you to the same places, although we don’t have tabs yet for the blogs. -art

PS. for those waiting, the Viewsonic Pro8200 review will post sometime tonight before I call it a night. -a

Greetings all,

Lots of readers have asked about gaming on various home theater projectors.

OK, I’ve concluded that I’ll never be a real gamer – certainly not one with the gaming experience, etc. to make good judgement calls on whether a given projector is particularly good, bad, or otherwise, when it comes to playing various types of games, be it WOW, or Carbon Canyon, or…Sonic?

So, here’s the story: I’m looking for an experienced gamer, living somewhere near San Clemente CA. (half way between LA and San Diego).

This person ideally is both a PC gamer and PS/3 or XBox (even Wii counts, but, hey, it’s still not as high end…)

Said person would evaluate various home projectors for key issues such as how good is the response time, picture quality (many projectors end up too dark on dark scenes (ie. WOW), and other issues.

Most likely “testing” would be done at my location. I already have PS/3′s and a Wii. I can add XBox 360 if really needed. Since I’m looking for a PC gamer, that person would help me purchase and configure a pretty high end gaming PC, which would be installed in my location, to be used by our “Projector Gaming Master.”

Once a process is set up, I imagine, the testing per projector shouldn’t take more than an hour or two, to cover both PC and game machine options.

The individual I’m looking for, would probably have the option of evaluating up to 20 projectors a year, but likely more like a dozen or so.

My gaming expert would be an independent contractor. Said person would be contracted one projector at a time, or perhaps several over a period of time. Very “part time” only a few hours a month, most likely, and that depending on what projectors… But, it should be fun. And, if the gamer can write reasonably well, I may want to launch a blog about gaming and projectors on the site. If that was the case, I’d be looking for someone to blog about once a month. This would be separate from testing the projectors/gaming.

So, OK, you hard core gamers, anyone nearby, have skills, and want to make a few bucks?

Students also welcome. Must have own transportation. Since the desired person will be an independent contractor contracted for on as needed basis, they should be flexible. Testing will be done here (with rare exceptions), in the daytime, or the evening. Those are details that can be worked out. While this may be about gaming, I’m looking for someone I can count on.

BTW, some of that gaming in 2011, is almost certain to include 3D gaming.

If local, skilled (at gaming), and interested, contact me at reviewer@projectorreviews.com

thanks! -art

Greetings all,

OK, I haven’t been writing much. Today is the 27th day Projector Reviews Inc., myself, Lori, etc. are now living in our new home.

That also means it’s 28 days since we moved out of the last house, with all my gear packed up, and my two viewing rooms there, abandoned.

I’m back in business! Soon to be better than ever! Here’s the scoop on the two new rooms:

Gone is the 128″ Stewart Firehawk G3. You won’t be hearing, in new reviews, how well projectors did on that particular screen.

New is the new house – better set up for reviewing. It’s not finished yet, but for the last 10 days it has been functional, and improving daily, in capabilities.

First though the latest going on, in terms of reviews.

The LG CF3D projector review has just been published. I still have to do the screens page, and calibration. There won’t be a competitors page, because this is the only 3D projector reviewed anywhere near the price. I’ll try to have the other two pages up, in the next 48.

I’m waiting for more home theater projectors. Mike’s Samsung – LED light source business projector just posted. And Tony’s posting a review of the interactive InFocus IN3916, but those probably aren’t of much interest to most of you. But I’m sitting here, ready to start a home theater review and have nothing new in house. That’s absolutely mazing for this time of year. Waiting patiently for the 4 new JVCs, the two new Sonys, the Epson R series, and so on.

To keep busy, I’m working on all those new category pages on the site, like 3D projectors, lcd projectors, digital projectors, pico projectors… One of the web guys wrote most of the content on those pages, and I’m finding many things I think need changing (and correcting) or expanding upon.

If any of you should notice some “frontier gibberish” on those category pages, feel free to comment back to this particular blog. I hope to have all of them re-written by early next week, but we shall see. I’ve got a one day conference in LA on TV “3.0″, and a Christie demo of projectors in concert, staging type environments. Then off to Las Vegas, for some work and play – I likely try to hook up with Evan, over at PC (he lives in Vegas) for lunch, and to catch up, and bitch about the industry.

I’m also still plugging away at the pretty much now infamous and still missing 3D report. I’ve published the LG CF3D review, and am working on writing up the Lightspeed 3D system, and several related pages about 3D. I have to also write up the 3D sections for 3 other single chip 3D ready DLP projectors that Mike reviewed just covering them as standard 2D projectors.

In other words, plenty to do here, but I really want to play with some all new home theater projectors, which hasn’t happened yet this fall. Most of those just mentioned – are sporting new “engines.”

I will of course, report as soon as I know that an interesting projector is inbound. I hope one will surface in the next few days, so I can start on it next week.

I’ll take some photos of the rooms in a few days when they are clean enough (boxes everywhere), but downstairs I’ve got a testing room:

It’s about 16×11 (was a nice sized bedroom) with a side room off of it. The side room is a work area – all cheap shelving (but should be great for my junk). It is about 4.5×8 feet. The testing room has dark carpet (blue with some color, but dark – by any measure).

The ceiling is black.

Two opposite walls are medium blue-gray. One wall is very dark blue, and one is a medium dark, redish brown. On that brown wall, I can place two 3 foot wide white, or black panels. If you are wondering why, I’m going to try to emulate different “family room” environments with different lighting. By having different wall colors I’ll be able to quickly discern some of the light rejection abilities of screens… I’m still sorting it out, but I figure it will be useful. There are four recessed lights – all on the same circuit. They will be divided into four circuits each dimmable.

On the dark blue wall (between the medium blue gray walls), will go two screen setups. The primary will again, be a Carada Brilliant White, but this time, a 2.35:1 inside their Masquerade CIH masking system. That Carada is a 110″ diagonal, 2.35:1, 1.4 gain, white surfaced projector screen.

The room as shown in this link, is sporting my old Carada Brilliant White 106″ that was in my previous testing room. Basically I’m simply going to a 2.35:1, using the same Brilliant White surface, with a masking system.

The other two screens will most likely be a Screen Innovations Black Diamond .8 gain screen, and probably a Firehawk G3 (or SST). The Black Diamond would do double duty as a 3D screen, and as a sample “dark” gray screen. I haven’t actually ordered either but should have things in the works soon.

One of these two screens (both will be motorized) will be in front (above) the Carada, and the other on the blue-gray wall, that has a large window (with big wooden shutters).

With three active screens, and several other fixed wall screens stacked up, I’ll be able to try a lot of things.

I’ve got to get some real work done soon, so let me skip to the theater room, upstairs.

This is easy it is basically a room added over the two car garage! 8 foot ceilings, and about 20×23 feet (once we removed the closet). Nice sized. So far, just a fixed 100″ Elite HC gray screen, balanced on a box, and a smaller 82″ Da-Lite 3D screen is leaning against a wall near by, if needed. Looks like this so far! Here’s standing up by the right speaker with the photo showing the back of the theater

I’m just finalizing the screen for this room. It’s a 130″ diagonal, 2.40:1 screen. It’s going to give me a slightly larger image for movie viewing (about 7″ more width than my old Firehawk, but a smaller image by about 14″ less vertically, when viewing 16:9. (Dropping to a 100″ diagonal 16:9.) For me, that’s almost tiny.

But, what type of screen – get on with it, you say! OK.

It’s two screens. Stewart recently announced their Daily Dual (yep, that is the name of it). And it’s perfect for my needs. It consists of a fixed wall screen (which will be their 3D surface), and a frame housing a motorized Studiotek 130, will be right there. Hit the button, and the Studiotek 130 lowers, and snuggles up close to the 3D screen.

I’ll probably end up all stressed out at having a 130″ 3D screen, or, rather, trying to fill it with bright enough 3D content.

Ahh, the ceiling is the same black as downstairs, and the walls are very, very dark blue. This room has the same carpet as the testing room. From my back row, it’s just over 22 feet to the screen.

The sound will be great too. More on that, later. - adios! for now-art

Greetings all,

We continue to improve our projector site, and I just wanted to bring you up to speed on some of the new changes.

Also, I’m open to suggestions for further improvements – keep things modest though – I’m talking the site, not individual reviews, at this time. Please post any suggestions only to this particular blog page.

OK, let’s talk about some new tabs found on the masthead (the top) of all pages.

We now have the first pull-down tab labeled Projector Reviews. There you will find the two “old” directories (each had their own tab) for review of projectors – the Home Theater Projector Reviews directory, and the Digital Projector Reviews directory. Those continue to list all appropriate reviews, by manufacturer and date. The Digital Projector directory, also, I must note, lists all reviews – including some blog reviews, screens, and accessories. Eventually we’ll break out an accessories page as well.

The biggest change is the second tab from the left:

Projector Categories

This contains more than a dozen different “landing pages” they are descriptions of different major terms used in the industry to describe categories of projectors. 1080p projectors, LCD projectors, video projectors, pico projectors, school projectors, and the list goes on. These often seriously overlap each other, which makes you wonder why we have so many. Consider – not much difference between multimedia projector, video projector, and digital projector. Nor is there much difference between pico projector, mini projector, pocket projector, and handheld projector, if any. LED projectors however, originally were all pocket or pico projectors, now however, a number of bigger projectors are sporting LED light engines – so there are 5 ounce LED projectors, and also 10 and 40 pound LED projectors too, such as the Vivitek H9080FD (the first LED light source home theater projector under $20K) that we reviewed previously.

But, different folks type those different terms when searching, and these changes should make it a little easier for those using search engines to find our site, and, of course, information on these projectors!

There’s more, though. Each of those landing pages does provide a good description of the term, and will show you pictures in rotation of a number of projectors that fit the category. You can click on those thumbnails of a projector, for a larger version and a bit of information on them, plus links to their reviews and more.

Of course we can’t list all 1080p projectors (and show their images) on the 1080p landing page, as there would be many dozens. For that reason, our main directories are still there, as well as all our search functions found on the left column of the site.

We will try to keep the images updated to reflect the most current and interesting projectors, although as these landing pages are just coming on line, many show some projectors that are on their way out, as the new ones are just starting to ship.

Here’s a link to a screen capture of the Projector Categories pull-down tab. (The image is too big to embed in the blog). I had selected LCoS projectors, so you can see some of the thumbnails, and the enlarge LG image. The basic description of that projector would be right below, with a link to the review. More info about LCoS projectors is found further below.

And that folks is about it, for now. Again, if you have any great, (but modest to implement?) suggestions, now is the time! Thanks! -art

PS. In the next two months also look for a redesign and improvement of our projector database. The end result should be both better, and better looking. I’ve never been happy with the database as laid out, so, we’ll try to make better overall.

Greetings everyone. Hey, sorry I haven’t been around much the last 3 weeks. After I got the 1080p Projector report posted, I had to delve right into a new report: The Classroom Projector Report (and it’s series of Best In Classroom awards).

Because the K-12 school market does almost all of its projector shopping research in April and May, and then goes out to bid in June, the Classroom report became a massive priority. It was made worse this year because of the last minute arrivals of 3 important home theater projectors which severely delayed the 1080p (home projector) report to mid-April

Well, “I’m baaack”. True, I still need to add about 8 hours to the Classroom report, and probably 5+ to the 1080p report, but I’m back to new stuff as well.

One of my first priorities is to start writing up the Mitsubishi HC6800 projector review. It was measured and calibrated, and watched for a whole bunch of hours before I started on the 1080p report, but there was no time to write it up first. Now’s the time.

And I’ve got a couple of “surprises” for you all. Two more blogs coming tonight. I’ll give you a clue:

a) We received our first Runco ever, to review

b) 3D is almost starting to come together…

c) InFocus SP8602 first of two updates

OK that’s it for now. tic, tic, tic… to the next blog.
