Greetings one and all. It’s time for me to share some more tidbits about the Home Cinema 5010 now that I’ve run it side by side with the Panasonic PT-AE7000 for a few hours, and also the Optoma HD8300.
Mostly I’ve got great news so far, but also a disapointment or two, but the news is mostly good. Read the rest of this entry »

Greetings people,
The Home Cinema 5010 is here, or actually it’s a Home Cinema 5010e.
Upon opening it up, Mike quickly discovered that there are no THX modes. This is different than the original Pro Cinema 6010 I had seen, and my expectations were that the 5010 and 5010e would have THX, since the Epson Home Cinema 8700UB, had THX. My best guess is somewhere in the process, Epson had to decide if the more expensive Pro Cinema 6010 should be the only one with THX modes. Epson has always Read the rest of this entry »

Greetings all, Just an update as to what’s going on, in terms of upcoming projector reviews. The Panasonic PT-AE7000 wins a Hot Product Award. We’re starting reviews of the Acer H9500BD, Sony VPL-VW95ES, and Epson Home Cinema 5010. More about the order, etc., below

Panasonic PT-AE7000 - PT-AT5000 in the EU
As many of you have noticed, the Panasonic PT-AE7000 projector review is up. Sorry for the delay in mentioning that here.
As of this writing, Lori’s just starting to proof, and I still have a few more things to add – some additional comparisons, the screen page, and the menus…
It’s one fine projector. Check out the PT-AE7000 review.
So, what’s next? Glad you asked! Read the rest of this entry »

PT-AE7000 2D/3D Home Theater Projector
Greetings all,
I received tracking info from Panasonic , showing the PT-AE7000 home theater projector is being delivered this afternoon. Mike’s alerted, to pick it up for immediate calibration. I’ll start working on it tomorrow, and have early thoughts for you on Sunday probably after I’ve watched a couple of NFL games on it, with the review likely to post next Tues/Wed…?
I’ve been waiting too long for this projector to arrive. From my earlier peeks, it showed great potential. And I can’t wait to use its lens memory on my 2.35:1 Studiotek 130 screen. Like the lower cost Epson 3010 we just reviewed, this PT-AE7000 should have plenty of lumens, enough to do a good job on 3D.
Of course the best part of most year’s reviewing is the almost annual shootout between the latest Panasonic – in this case, the PT-AE7000, and the latest Epson in the same class. This year that will be the Home Cinema 5010. If past years are any indication, both will prove to be exceptional values, in terms of both performance and feature sets.
Also, seems I should have the Epson 5010 arriving same time I should be finishing the Panasonic up. That will make sure the Panasonic gets done without delay. -art

Greetings all,
Almost exactly 2 years ago, I was asked by an advertiser – Visual Apex, to review their Vapex screen, which they bring in from Asia and sell under their Vapex brand. I would generally refer to this as a private label screen, and reviewing it had the potential of creating some conflict. My solution back then was straightfoward: I asked Mike to review Read the rest of this entry »

UPDATE: The Sony VPL-HW30ES projector review has been posted!
Greetings everyone,
Some last minute changes.
As some of you have noticed, we’ve published the GT750 Optoma review, although some aspects won’t be finished until I return from vacation (such as measurements).
It looks like we know what the next 5 reviews to publish will be, assuming the manufacturers can keep from fouling me up, with “schedule changes”.
OK, as you know, I’ve had the Epson Home Cinema 3010 – actually, it’s a Home Cinema 3010e, but with two pair of 3D glasses tossed into the box for our reviewing pleasure (they are optional with the “e” version of the projector).
I had anticipated posting the Epson tomorrow (it’s 80% written Read the rest of this entry »

Sony VPL-HW30ES Projector offers 2D and 3D Performance
UPDATE: The Sony VPL-HW30ES projector review has been posted!
OK, here’s the scoop on our third recent projector arrival for review, Sony’s new VPL-HW30ES – replacement for their VPL-VWPro1, which first and foremost, adds 3D abilities.
Reportedly the HW30ES shares the same panels as the far more expensive Mitsubishi HC9000D and Sony’s own VPL-VW95ES (we previously reviewed last year’s VW90ES). For $3500 the VPL-HW30ES projector should prove to be another formidable LCoS projector. Brightness specs are

Epson's $1599 Home Cinema 3010 - a 2D and 3D Projector
Greetings all of you folks that have just been dying to learn more about Epson’s new, and least expensive 3D capable 1080p projector; the Home Cinema 3010.
The Home Cinema 3010 projector has an MSRP of $1599, and includes two pair of 3D glasses (and internal emitter). There is also a second version, the 3010e (also 3D capable) which sells for $200 more, lacks the 3D glasses (optional). Other than the wireless HD – WiHD – and the number of glasses included, the two projectors are identical.
The big story, is that just two hours ago, Fedex delivered a pre-production HC3010e projector for me to review. I’ve already got it plugged in, and have been viewing football – in 2D, and in 3D, and a brief mix of other content – 2D and 3D so far.
Too soon for any real opinions, except to say that the Home Cinema 3010e – and therefore also the Home Cinema 3010, are both Read the rest of this entry »

Greetings everyone, just a heads up. I’m finished with the 3D capable, Optoma GT750 gaming projector review, except for:
1. Finishing writing up the projector review and posting it. I’m trying for late tonight, but definitely posted by end of day Sunday – Oct 2.
2. Getting to the bottom of why I’m having problems getting Read the rest of this entry »
