Panasonic PT-AE7000 3D Projector – A “First Look” Review

July 28th, 2011 Art Feierman

Greetings from Panasonic West.  Ok, not really!   Panasonic in the US, is HQ’d in Secaucus, NJ.  But they have their digital labs out by Universal Studios in LA.  Today, I got a first look at Panasonic’s PT-AE7000 (click for specifications) 3D and 2D, 1080p home theater projector!

It will be shipping in September!  I asked, they could not tell me when in Sept – early or late, or…  We’ll just have to see.

A quick comment then some details.   I had the opportunity to see a good hour plus of assorted 3D content, including Ice Age 3, and Read the rest of this entry »

Mitsubishi HC9000D projector review just posted

July 27th, 2011 Art Feierman
Greetings, here’s the short version:
Mitsubishi’s HC9000D is another excellent 2D projector with 3D capabilities, competing with similarly capable projectors  in the $4K – $12K range.  It’s got a few more lumens for 3D than the Sony VW90ES, and the Sharp XV-Z17000, even more compared the JVC RS60…
The HC9000D has a great CFI for movie viewing!  That’s a real highlight for me. The HC9000′s  dynamic iris is smooth, but very slow.
Check out the HC9000D review. -art

Mitsubishi HC9000D 3D 1080p projector arriving next week

June 30th, 2011 Art Feierman

UPDATE: The Mitsubishi HC9000D projector review has been posted!

For review… That’s it folks. I haven’t seen it since CES, where the setup had problems (very engineering sample, and shipping damaged), but still managed 3D. With a price tag over $5K, and an SXRD LCoS engine, Mitsubishi is pricing it roughly halfway between Sony’s just announced VPL-HW30ES (click for specifications), and the already reviewed VPL-VW90ES (click for review) – both 3D capable and ready to go.

Should be very interesting! Can’t wait. Got my 3D content ready, and tired of watching 3D on an Optoma GT720 (click for review) game computer, who’s black levels are nothing short of poor. On the other hand, the GT720′s got lumens enough for 3D, something most of the higher end 3D projectors (under $15K) seem to lack). We’ll run it through the paces, from standard, to 3D movies, 3D games, sports in 3D, and more. Is this the one to own? We shall see. -art

Optoma HD3300 3D 1080p Projector with HDMI 1.4a Unofficial News

June 26th, 2011 Art Feierman

I haven’t been able to track down a preliminary data sheet for the HD3300 projector, who’s news leaked at Infocomm, but there seems to be some consensus, as to what the HD3300 is.

It would seem that the Optoma HD3300 is a more feature laden HD33.  The primary difference should be that the HD3300 is equipped with HDMI 1.4a, and is compatible with Blu-ray 3D and other 1080p HD sources such as satellite or cable.  This would separate it from the HD33 which looks to be Read the rest of this entry »

ViewSonic VP3D1 HD 3D Processor Review: Blu-Ray 3D, HDTV, on Optoma GT720

June 26th, 2011 Art Feierman
The ViewSonic VP3D1 earns our Special Interest Award!

The ViewSonic VP3D1 3D processor earns our Special Interest Award!

Eureka! It works!

I’m talking about ViewSonic‘s VP-3D1.  What is it? What works? The VP3D1 lets you watch 1080p 3D content from Blu-ray 3D discs and other, including HDTV sources, on 3D projectors that aren’t currently able to do so.  It’s the magical device that changes the range of capabilities of those relatively low cost first and second generation 3D projectors sporting 720p and similar native resolutions such as WXGA. For lack of better terminology, let’s call the ViewSonic VP-3D1 a 3D processor.   That seems to make sense. and, that’s what ViewSonic calls it.

Viewsonic VP3D1 3D HD Processor

VP3D1 - brings Blu-ray 3D, and 1080p 3D HDTV to low cost 3D projectors

The VP3D1 has an MSRP in the US of $299, but street price seems to be mostly around $249 based on a quick online search.  That makes it a very reasonably priced add on to your system, considering the benefits delivered.
