Canon LV8235UST

The Canon LV8235UST projector. The Canon LV8235UST (click for specifications) is not closely related to the WUX4000 by any means--in fact, any similarities the two projectors have are purely coincidental. However, we figured the LV8235UST warranted a closer look. The LV8235UST is in a entirely different class from the WUX4000, as it costs $1799 instead of a whopping $8999. But what does the LV8235UST offer for its lower price point?

The LV8235UST is a DLP projector, rather than an LCoS projector. It is slightly dimmer than the WUX4000, with 2500 lumens of brightness instead of 4000 lumens. It is of lower resolution (1280x800 compared to 1920x1200), and it lacks the WUX4000's DVI input. The lamp life is also shorter, 2000 hours in full power and 3000 hours in eco-mode.

But the LV8235UST does one-up the WUX4000 in several regards. It has twice as high of a contrast ratio (2000:1), and it has a Monitor Out (VGA) input that the other does not. It is also slightly more portable, weighing 5 lbs. less than the WUX4000 at 13.7 lbs. While it's not a huge difference, it means you can transport the LV8235UST a bit more easily from office to office or classroom to classroom.

The Canon LV8235UST also has twice the sound capabilities of the WUX4000, with a 10W speaker instead of 5W. It has close captioning capabilities too. The replacement lamp costs less ($349 instead of $420), but the tradeoff is that you'll need it sooner because the lamp life is shorter by 1000 hours. However, the LV8235UST doesn't have filters like the WUX4000, which saves you the fuss of changing filters.

The LV8235UST is also an ultra-short throw projector. This means you can set the LV8235UST very close to your screen. This is ideal if your office or classroom space is cramped. It also means that you can set the projector behind you during a presentation, saving you from shadows and the blinding light.

Both projectors are widescreen (though the WUX4000 is higher resolution), offer network control and network notification capabilities, and come with a 3 year parts and labor warranty.

So if you're tight on space, tight on budget and want a widescreen projector that can handle your presentation needs, the LV8235UST is a great option for your business or school!
