Dell S300W XGA DLP Multimedia Projector Review
May 2010 - Anthony Arrigo
Dell S300W Projector Overview
Dell has really created a ultra versatile, fairly portable DLP projector at a great price. The Dell S300W comes packed with features. They certainly left few stones unturned when it comes to thinking about all the scenarios a presenter may encounter. This ultra short throw projector is capable of projecting a 90" diagonal image from just 3 feet away. If that wasn't amazing enough, this projector comes with wireles presenting technology right out of the box.
It has a native resolution of 1280x800 (WXGA) so you can present in the widescreen format that you more than likely have on your laptop, and this unit puts out a moderate 2200 lumens of brightness which compared to most new units is a little on the low side, but still very bright. One has to remember that even 500 lumens about 7 years was still full capable of putting out a fairly decent image. Expect the 2200 lumens the Dell S300W has to do very well.
Considering all the features and capabilities, $999 MSRP is very competitve and makes the unit able to compete price wise with projectors that may have slightly more brighness. Keep in mind, to notice a real difference in brightness, you usually have to to increase lumens by about 500 or more. Even then you might not notice much depending on the lighting in the environment.
The Dell S300W accepts just about every input you could imagine. There is no component input directly on the unit, but it can accept it via an optional cable that will plug in to the VGA port. Below you will find some highlights and some basic specs. Next we will take a physical tour of the projector.
