Review – Optoma GT750 Gaming Projector

Hello All!

Before I left for Austin, I had a chance to sit down and play with the Optoma GT750 projector for a while.  Sometimes it takes a little time apart to fully appreciate what you had.  One thing is certain, seeing the Optoma GT750 reminded my how much I really enjoyed the GT720.

I found it to be remarkably similar to its younger brother (the Optoma GT720),  In fact, I found them so similar it was difficult to take note of the differences without seeing them side by side.

Update! BenQ W1200 Projector: The Scrabble Story

Hello all,

I apologize for being MIA for a little while.  I am in the process of moving to Austin, TX for a new job and have not had time to sit down at all lately.  But I do have some updates for you!

Yes, I’ll share the Scrabble story too…

Dual Review – Optoma Neo-i & Optoma PK301

Hey all!

I’ve had a couple weeks to sit down with these two Optoma projectors and get a good feel for what they can do.   This was my first time with any “pico” projector and I spent a good deal of time getting used to the concept before diving into my review.  It certainly was interesting to see how these types of projectors perform in a variety of environments.

Product Review – Sony Xperia Play (Verizon Wireless)

Hello all!

I’m usually pretty up to date with the latest and greatest technology on all fronts, so I’m pretty embarrassed to say I’ve been carrying the same old cell phone around for more than four years!   Kudos to LG for making a great phone (2nd generation chocolate) that lasted as long as it did, but I sure am glad to finally get my upgrade.

I’ve stepped into the world of the smart phone, and to celebrate the occasion I’ve decided to do a product review of my Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone, the Sony Xperia Play

Gaming on Projectors – Best or Brightest?

“Best mode” refers to a calibrated mode that focuses on reproducing a picture as accurate to the source material  as possible.  I takes into consideration many different aspects of the picture – color balance, color saturation, skin tone, brightness, contrast, gamma adjustment, etc.

“Brightest mode” is usually a calibrated mode that focuses more on light output rather than accurate image reproduction.

There is often lots of talk about “best mode” vs “brightest mode”, and they both are useful, so I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on their uses/impact on gaming.

Review – BenQ W1200 Projector

Hello all!

I’ve been playing all sorts of games on the BenQ W1200 for about a week now, and I’ve had plenty of time to see what it can (and cannot) do.

The BenQ W1200 retails for about $1499 and is native a 1080p projector.  Both the W1200 and the recently reviewed Optoma GT720 are both DLP, but they are vastly different projectors.  Read on!

Input Lag – A Second Look

Hey All!

I just returned a few days ago from my month long adventure overseas (sorry for the extended absence) and I thought I’d get back into things with a bit about input lag.  As you know, it’s a fairly important “spec”for gaming – and it is definitely going to be a standard measurement for upcoming game reviews.

Ideally, input lag is zero (like we saw in the recently reviewed Optoma GT720), but most projectors will have some measurable amount of input lag.

So how much is too much? Read the rest of this entry »

Review – Optoma GT720 Gaming Projector

Hello All!

I got my hands on the Optoma GT720 for review and received the “go ahead” from Art to post my thoughts on its gaming performance.  His full review will be out later and will include a summary of this review. Read the rest of this entry »

About Me

Hey All!

I’ve written a few introductory blogs and feel now is a good time to do a more in depth introduction of who I am.  Until recently, I was a full time student.  I’m excited to say I graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and have started a full time position in my field at an Austin, Texas based technology company . First Person Shooters (FPS)

Hello All!

This bit is dedicated entirely to first person shooters!  This genre has really made a name for itself in the past 10 years and has also broken into the forefront of competitive gaming.  In fact, most MLG gaming ladders and tournaments are focused on these types of games.  FPS demand lightning fast response times, pin point accuracy and very good shadow detail.

So, how do projectors hold up to the display challenge? Read the rest of this entry »
