The InFocus SP8602 provides what sounds like a truly amazing warranty. Actually it is one of the better warranties out there, it's just not as great as first glance might have you think.
InFocus advertises five years parts, 2 years labor for its warranty coverage
The 2 years labor is correct.
The five years aspect, only covers some of the parts. The rest, two years. Reminds me of GM (Government Motors) offering a "100,000 mile warranty", which turns out to be a 100,000 mile warranty on the drive train, but not the rest of the car. Same idea.
Only covered for two years, is the power supply, the light tunnel, fans, and the color wheel. So, that mostly leaves the non-power supply related electronics, for the five years of coverage. Note that the two year parts item list includes everything that has moving parts.
Still, this has to be considered a better than average warranty. Most of the similarly priced competition, including the Sonys, JVCs, provide two years standard. Optoma, though, the high end BenQ projectors and the Epson Pro Cinema projectors have three years warranties, and many of them have 1 to 3 year replacement or loaner programs, which the InFocus lacks.
Lamp warranty is 6 months, whereas most projector lamps come with only 90 days. There are a few offering 6 months though, InFocus isn't unique in this regard.
InFocus SP8602 Warranty, The Bottom Line: The SP8602 definitely comes with a very good warranty, better than most competitors, but there are some others at least as good. On the other hand, InFocus also offers additional extended projector and lamp warranties, something that most others do not.
