Mitsubishi HC8000D Projector - Warranty

The Mitsubishi HC8000D projector definitely comes with a better than most warranty, for projectors near its price.
The Mitsubishi HC8000D comes with a three year limited parts and labor warranty. In addition, it comes with a 10,000 hour warranty on the DLP chip. That would be good marketing, as I never hear of DLP chip failure.
In the price range, most projectors have two or three year warranties. There are very few one year warranties. About the best is the Epson's Pro Cinema 6020 which has a three year warranty, with the bonus of having a fast replacement service for all three years, Optoma offers 3 years as well, and they have a replacement program, but only for the first year... This Mitsubishi HC8000D projector's warranty is close behind. All the projectors I just mentioned are "authorized local dealer only" sold projectors.
In terms of the competing projectors sold online, the $2599 Epson HC5020 (basically the 6020 in white case) comes with 2 years with replacement warranty for both years. The Panasonic PT-AE8000 now $2799, has a standard warranty of two years, not three, but they limit their warranty to 2000 hours of use maximum, an amount some heavy user owners will go through in less than one year. They have run promotions extending that to 3 years/ 3000 hours, but that program is about to end as we publish this Mitsubishi review.
Two more expensive projectors; JVC's DLA-RS46, and DLA-X35 offer two years, as does Acer with their far less expensive H9500BD. BenQ provides only a single year warranty on their W7000, but like the Acer is now below $2000.
The longest warranty of the competion that is available online would be the Sony VPL-HW50ES.
The bottom line: Three years is about as good as it gets. A replacement program would be nice, but the Mitsubishi HC8000D warranty is as long as any other major brand, and longer than many.
