Sanyo PLV-Z3000 - finally announced, with big time contrast

Greetings, OK, I'm a few days late on this, but for those that didn't catch the "news" elsewhere, last Thursday, Sanyo finally announced the expected PLV-Z3000, their new high end, 1080p home theater projector. The Sanyo PLV-Z3000 has an MSRP of $3295. No idea at this time if it will launch with a rebate, or if there will be a lower MAP price, so hard to say what street price will be when it first ships, but, my best guess is that it's not likely to be much less than $3000, if that, without some sort of rebate. And they are playing in the stratosphere of claimed contrast, quoting 65,000:1. I think the record claim, so far, is Epson's 75,000:1 on the Pro Cinema 7500 UB, and Home Cinema 6500 UB. Sony's in there, I think with a projector at 72,000:1, and so on. Ahh, seems like just a few years ago, everyone was touting 2500:1 as great contrast. Sure, today we have advanced dynamic irises, and we know that there are trade-offs, but few will argue that on those dark scenes, black levels have been rather dramatically reduced. Well, tomorrow I'm heading up to LA for Sanyo's press (and dealer?) first look at the PLV-Z3000. Should be interesting enough. The PLV-Z3000 will also be sporting frame creation/interpolation, as are top of the line models from Epson, Panasonic, Sony, and a couple of others. Sanyo provided chart showing frame rate interpolation for a smoother action Most of the rest of the news about Sanyo's PLV-Z3000 is no surprise - 2:1 motorized zoom lens, extremely quiet operation, 1200 lumens lots of lens shift, all trademarks of previous Sanyo home theater projectors I'll put up another blog, commenting on what I learned at the event. Other than that, since this is about Sanyo, I have received both the PLV-Z60 - their new 720p replacement for the Z5, and the PLV-Z700, Sanyo's entry level 1080p home theater projector. I hope to get one of the reviews published this weekend, and the other before next weekend. A busy week. -art
