Optoma HD33 3D Projector Review Update

Greetings,
I am working on the review, but have encountered a snag with the 3D part of the review. It will probably be a few more days before I can finish up. I have a feeling it is a compatibility issue with the projector, and Nvidia 3D Vision. It is not on the compatibility list, and the 3D Vision software only supports HDMI 1.3 from what I have read on Nvidia’s site. There is new software out to remedy this issue, but Art is contacting Nvidia directly to see if that is the issue. Once I receive the software I will be able to get the 3D up and running. Here is a link to the software I am referring to:

Other than that, I am liking the HD33, and I love the Nvidia GeForce GTX580. This is a video card that can take anything you throw at it, and I highly recommend it based on the past few weeks of gaming with it. I am sure the 590 is better. Although I feel the 590 is a bit overpriced, but that’s because I am a cheapskate…ha ha.
Take care,
-Ebenezer

WOW..I’M BUMMED..I HAVE BEEN CHECKING FOR THIS REVIEW EVERY DAY..AND 6 DAYS LATER..STILL NOTHING…
Sorry! We are still waiting on word back from Nvidia. If we don’t hear back soon I will post the review without the 3D section, and just add it later. I have a feeling it is the software, but just waiting on confirmation.
I am also eagerly awaiting nvidia’s response to you. I am only interested in HD33 connected to my HTPC.
Hi Alex,
Which Nvidia card are you using?
NO WORD FROM NVIDIA YET? I HAVE 2 GTX 580′S AND YEAH THEY ARE BEASTLY CARDS..I CAN PLAY CRYSIS 2 IN 3D ON MY MITSU WD-73C10 40 PLUS FPS..CMON NVIDIA..YOU ARE DROPPING THE BALL…
OH..I MEANT TO SAY THATS JUST ON ONE CARD!
Isn’t the Optoma HD33 supposed to work with 3DTV from NVIDIA even though it isn’t (yet) on the compatibility list? All you need is a device with 3D (HDMI 1.4a) capability…..
Eagerly awaiting your review though
i am eagerly awaiting information about this also.
the advertising literature for the hd33 states nvidia 3dtv play supported,my laptop is nvidia 3d vision with inbuilt transmitter so is elligible for a free 3dtv play upgrade but how the hell do you get it????
I am still on the fence on getting this. As Ian has said I am awaiting for confirmation before splashing out the cash
I would probably hold off until the HD33 is definitely 3DTV Play approved by Nvidia before shelling out the cash. According to the thread provided by SoulNight28 it should just be a few weeks. I would even go further, and wait until you have seen from other owners that 3D PC gaming actually works with the compatibility revisions.
steven, dont hold your breath mate,it would seam optoma have been very naughty and advertised something it isnt, thay have even removed from there advertising now that its nvidia 3dtv play suppoported, they shouldnt be allowed to do things like that,
I really wish I had one of those projectors, as the Optoma GT750 seems to be striking out as well. It’s not on the Nvidia 3D Vision compatible list, but I was hoping the GT750 was close enough to the GT720 that is would work. It seems a bit ridiculous that it takes months to get a projector on the compatible list, like in the case of the HD33. It would be nice if there was some way to make the drivers universally compatible with all 3D displays.
I don”t see what “s the big deal. Correct me if I am wrong but optoma 3d pjs don”t support 1920p @ f120hz so gaming will be limited to 720p. There are a bunch of 720p 3d cheap pjs available that are 3d vision compatible like acer 5360
I am going to bring that in the review which should be up by Tuesday. The 3D was a no go on the HD33, but I do have the Optoma GT750 in my possession now.
Hello, you can actually make 3d gaming work on the hd33. See on this thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/projectors/1516669-optoma-hd33-hd300x-owners-thread-7.html
This guy has activated 3dtv play on the hd33 through this trick “FIX: NVIDIA 3DTV PLAY Samsung 3d Plasma or other unsupported model” : http://blog.bagearon.com/?p=38. He said, he just needed 5minutes to make it work!
Also, on an other website (french), one claimed he made 3d vision work with the hd33 by changing the EDID and using the one of the X3 (JVC).
I wish I still had it to check this method, but it is already on its way back to Optoma. Most of those posts are from February, and it looks like lag is an issue even if you trick it into running 3D. Lag is a major issue for PC gaming, and I would never recommend a projector that has a high level of lag in any gaming mode. A lot of people just want something that works out of the box. And don’t enjoy spending countless hours on Google researching, and tinkering with things like you and I…ha ha. I have the Optoma GT750 here now, so hopefully this one works out of the box. Thanks for the info, it looks like there is an update coming soon which will include the HD33. At least based on the comments within that thread.
