Under $1000 Home Theater Projectors

Posted on March 12, 2007 by Art Feierman

Best of Class: Mitsubishi HD1000U

Runner-up: Optoma HD70

Special interest: Sanyo PLV-Z4

Mitsubishi HD1000U 720p DLP home theater projector

This Darkchip 2DLP projector with Brilliant Color, just does a slightly better job in overall image quality than the very similar Optoma HD70 which received Runner-up. The HD1000U is a compact and pretty lightweight hometheater projector, and as typical of under $2000 DLP projectors, it has a limited range zoom, and no lens shift, so placement flexibility is somewhat limited.

The HD1000U also has a lot of lens offset, requiring it to mount well above the top of the screen surface, or sit on a table well below the bottom of the screen.

The Mitsubishi HD1000U's picture quality is dynamic, and the projector itself is one of the brightest out there in the under $2000 range. Black levels are good, and overall, it is enjoyable to watch. As an added bonus, there are no filters to clean.
