Samsung SP-F10M Projector: Bottom Line
The Samsung SP-F10M has a lot going for it. It is solidly constructed, exuding a feeling of quality. The LED light source will never need replacing for the typical life of the projector and there are no dust filters, so maintenance costs should be minimal. Setup is quite simple and there are a number of picture adjustments not often found on projectors in this class.
The ability to present PC-free via its USB input is an appealing feature to those who need to create and display pictures and videos on the fly. It has very good color balance, even in its high brightness mode and it’s also quieter than much of the competition, as the LED light source does not get as hot as a typical projector lamp.
The question the potential buyer will have to answer is whether the SP-F10M can deliver sufficient lumens for its intended use. It’s billed as a conference room projector and can easily fill a screen size that would likely be used in a conference room, but unless the room has decent light control, 1000 lumens may not be enough for some presentations.
Above, the Samsung SP-F10M in its brightest mode.
While it subjectively appears brighter than it measures, it still only provides less than half the lumen output of much of the competition, some of which are markedly lower in cost. For example, the recently reviewed Dell 1610HD provided almost 3000 lumens in its Presentation mode, has most of the features of the Samsung SP-F10M in a lighter package and has an MSRP that’s $400 less.
The Samsung SP-F10M will provide a lot of value to the buyer who’s in the market for a projector that’s expected to last for years, with a lot of daily use in a light-controlled conference room. In such an environment, the SP-F10M will display a very nice, colorful image with low noise, great presentation flexibility and no worries about constant lamp replacement. It’s well worth considering if you’re in the market for such a projector.
