Sony VPL-TX7 Projector Overview
The Sony VPL-TX7 has a brightness rating of 2000 lumens. The VPL-TX7 is a native XGA(1024x768) resolution projector with the ability to handle higher resolutions. The picture quality of the Sony VPL-TX7 being that is an LCD projector was excellent. Colors were accurate and the sharpness of the image and the nice contrast produced a very nice image. The Sony really is a value priced projector. It may not compete in brightness with other projectors in its class, but it certainly has enough power to handle a room with the lights on.
Although not a stylish looking machine, its white color would make it ideal for mounting. The size and shape of the projector is however a bit large and so I don't really consider it a Road Warriors projector, but about 6 years ago it would have been considered a powerful portable projector.

All the basic inputs are there and there is little to know source you won't be able to project. The only thing this projector is missing is the USB presenting via a compact flash card that so many projectors in this class have. It is however networkable via its RJ45 input so that is one area where it still competes.
All in all the Sony VPL-TX7 doesn't offer a lot special features, but it is a good value depending on how plan to use it and what type of ceiling mount you purchase. Maintenance also is going to be a little more time consuming if you don't also purchase the ceiling mount from Sony. It appears, from the image they provide that the mount does not obstruct the filter or lamp door(verify before purchase). Universal mounts however would most surely cover the lamp door. Keep this in mind if you plan to ceiling mount. Your maintenance costs could outweigh any value you got out of buying a low priced projector.
Below are some basic specs. In the next section we will take a little closer look at the projectors physical characteristics.
