The Wemax Dice retails for $699 MSRP and is a Full HD HDR compatible LED DLP portable all-in-one projector. The Dice has a rated brightness of 700 ANSI Lumens and is specified to deliver a 350:1 contrast ratio.

OVERVIEW

I recently reviewed another Wemax projector, the Go Advanced, the company's paperback-sized projector for a business person on the go. The Go Advanced produced a good picture, so I have high hopes for this little Wemax projector. Check out my review of the Wemax Go Advanced by clicking on the link.

As soon as I pressed the power button on the Dice, I was greeted by a Formovie logo. The logo is also on the back of the projector. Formovie Tech is a company that is a partnership between Appotronics Corporation and Xiaomi Technology. I first became aware of this projector via Formovie's Indigogo website. You can view the company's campaign page with a decently produced marketing video.

I think that Wemax picking up the sales and distribution rights for this little powerhouse of a projector is a good thing. Although some of the technology used in the projector is almost three years, in many cases, the Dice is still a competitive offering from Wemax.

ALPD 4LED RGB+B DLP

The Wemax Dice uses an Osram four-channel RGB+BP LED light source which has some distinct advantages over a more commonly found three-channel LED light source. The +BP refers to a fourth Osram LED that adds a channel of blue light into the mix. The added Blue LED boosts the projector's NTSC color gamut allowing the projector to display very dynamic colors that Wemax says represent 100% of the Rec.709 color gamut.

4-channel LED RGB + DLP technology provides up to 20% more brightness than traditional 3-channel LED projectors. This projector's 4LED-light source is rated to produce 700 ANSI lumens of brightness and provide 25,000+ hours of light source life.

This projector's 0.33-inch Texas Instruments 1080P DLP imager provides a sharp image using the precision capabilities of a Digital Micromirror Display (DMD) device to produce a brilliant Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) image that can be displayed anywhere from 40 to 120-inches diagonally.

HDR

The Wemax Dice has an advanced video processor that allows the projector to support High Dynamic Range (HDR). This Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) projector can accept a 4K HDR video signal via a single HDMI port. The Dice is compatible with HDR10, the most commonly used format on UHD Blu-ray discs (4K movies) and most streaming content. HDR improves the projector's dynamic range and color; it also shows more details in shadows and the bright areas of a picture compared to non-HDR projectors.

SMART OS SMART FUNCTIONS

The Wemax Dice is a smart projector that uses Android TV as its operating system. Android TV gives you access to apps and services like Google Play, Prime Video, HBO Max, Apple TV, and many more are included. With Android TV, you can watch all your content on the same big screen home theater. The projector now acts as a streaming and media box with streaming services and apps built-in. The projector comes with 11 GB of internal memory shared between the Android TV operating system and data the user wants to store on the device. The Wemax Dice does not support Netflix through the Google Play store, but I was able to install a version of Netflix for Android TV by side-loading the apk file via a USB drive. It worked perfectly for everything I watched. If sideloading is an issue for you, just cast Netflix from your phone, tablet, or PC. If you want everything built into one system, you can use a separate media box like the new Chromecast with Google TV, an Amazon FireTV, or a game console to watch Netflix content.

In addition to being powered by an intelligent operating system, the Wemax Dice has smart features such as 4-Point keystone correction for a side projection function that allows you to adjust the projector to get a squared image even when the projector is off-axis to your screen.

The Wemax Dice includes a built-in auto-focus camera on the front panel of the projector, which can automatically focus on the screen after powering up the device. Just press the power switch, and the projector will auto-focus.

BATTERY

The Wemax Dice comes with a powerful built-in 16,000 mAH battery that will power the projector uninterrupted anytime, anywhere, for an estimated run time of 3 hours.

SOUND

The Wemax Dice features a 10W Dolby Audio sound system with very dynamic sound, especially for a projector that is essentially a 6-inch cube.

Wemax says the projector is both DOLBY and DTS certified. Wemax claims that the 10-watt (2 x 5) sound system should provide natural and lifelike sound effects and create an immersive acoustic experience.

The Dice also offers Bluetooth speaker functionality, allowing you to connect an external Bluetooth device, like a phone or tablet, to stream content, like music, directly to the projector.

This Wemax Dice is a good smartphone companion featuring built-in wireless connectivity for watching movies, sharing files, collaborating, video conferencing, or chatting with others on a bigger screen than your phone or tablet offers.

This projector supports High Dynamic Range (HDR), displaying more detail in the shadows and the bright areas and delivering lifelike colors compared to non-HDR projectors.

The Wemax Dice offers high-end technology in a small form factor and appears to be another excellent example of the brand's efforts to provide rich visual experiences for on-the-go consumers. 

The projector is available from the Wemax store and authorized retailers for a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $699

A little different from our other reviews on Projector Reviews, this 'life experience' review will evaluate the ML750ST through the strict lens of how suitable it - or any pico projector for that matter - can be for a cord-cutting young person with limited space and a limited budget.
