OVERVIEW

According to Futuresource, BenQ is the best-selling global projector brand powered by Texas Instruments DLP technology. BenQ professional projectors offer a wide range of professional installation solutions, including digital, laser, and interactive projectors designed for the enterprise, education, and corporate entertainment markets.

This new BenQ projector is a purpose-built solution to the need BenQ identified for affordable premium-quality projectors. The Laser Phosphor-Light Source - Projector Reviews - Image
The laser phosphor-light source can reproduce 95% Rec.709 color gamut.

The LU9750 uses a 0.67-inch DLP image sensor made by Texas Instruments combined with laser/phosphor illumination. The 0.67-inch DLP Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) used in the LU9750 is a larger sensor than you would find in many consumer and even some professional DLP projectors. This larger sensor offers some significant advantages over smaller 0.47-inch DLP imagers, including that it is optimized for large format projectors. The 0.67-inch sensor's larger surface area is better at managing the high output from the projector's laser-light source.

Larger sensors can display a sharper image than DLP projectors using a smaller imager, especially when projected onto a large screen. On a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) projector like the LU9750, the larger DMD provides a low refresh rate of 34 ms, excellent color, and improved contrast performance versus a similarly specced 0.47-inch DLP chip.

The DLP device used in the LU9750 comprises over two million micromirrors that reflect the pure light of the laser-light source to the projector's phosphor and color wheels. With large format, high brightness projectors like the LU9750 heat is also transferred to the DLP imager. To keep the imager safe, Texas Instruments hermetically seals the DLP chip allowing it to resist heat for over 200,000 hours of 24/7 operation without experiencing any degradation and ensuring true-to-life colors and pristinely legible text for countless uses.

Yellow Phosphor And One Rgbw Color Wheel - Projector Reviews - Image
BenQ BlueCore laser-light engine with one yellow phosphor and one RGBW color wheel

The LU9750 uses a BenQ BlueCore laser-light engine with one yellow phosphor and one RGBW color wheel. The laser phosphor-light source can reproduce 95% Rec.709 color gamut and lists a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. The BlueCore laser-light engine is maintenance-free and features IP5X certification. The LU9750 comes with four manufacturer preset modes to control the laser's light output for the venue the projector is being used.

NORMAL ECO DIMMING CUSTOM
Sets the projector's light source to maximum output, providing a guaranteed 20,000 hours of life. Turns down the projector cooling fan to reduce noise and lowers laser brightness to extend the light-source life to an estimated 30,000 hours. Lowers laser brightness more than ECO mode, which extends light-source life up to an estimated 70,000 hours. Manually adjusts laser brightness by 1% increments between 20% to 100%.

The LU9750 offers professional features such as 360-degree Placement, Full Lens Shift, Electronic Zoom, and Focus to reduce installation complexity. BenQ also provides the ability to perform advanced adjustments such as Edge Blending and Warping in professional environments where multiple projectors are used to create one giant image. This projector also supports horizontal and vertical stacking.

BenQ exclusive white balance adjustments can reduce white balance variables between images projected from different projectors to such a low level that most people cannot see any difference. This reduction of variables allows for seamless and accurate picture quality without disruptive discrepancies and saves time adjusting color when installing projectors.

BenQ's LU9750 projector is compatible with multiple optional powered lenses designed to maximize throw ratio coverage. Nine (9) Japanese-made interchangeable lenses feature all-glass optics designed to eliminate chromatic aberration and color flare, provide the best-displayed image quality, and maximize installation options and projection layouts. All these are done with one quick one-button release, making changing this projector's lenses simple and secure.

The BenQ LU9750 is 3D-capable, accepting content from multiple source types. The projector is compatible with 3D Blu-ray players, 3D broadcasting, and 3D-capable game consoles. But the newest demand for this technology is in the education sector. They will be one of the largest consumers of 3D projectors in the next few years because 3D projectors help increase classroom engagement and knowledge retention. These projectors can be used in technical disciplines like design, engineering, and other specialized trades. In my opinion, this is the future of 3D projection.

Epson EB-PU1008W Projector
The Pro EB=PU100W is one of seven new P series projectors in Epson's 2022 line

The Epson EB-PU1008W is a WUXGA 8,500-lumen 4K-enhanced laser projector that accepts the full range of 4K content. This projector is designed for large venues, but its compact size and lightweight make it a great solution for various scenarios. The EB-PU1008W sells for an MSRP of $10,593.

Epson currently offers a total of seven laser projectors in its P-series lineup. Brightness ranges from 6,000 lumens delivered by the EB-PU1006W up to 10,000 lumens provided by the recently announced EB-PU2010B/W. Most of the projectors, including this projector I am reviewing, are available in a black or white chassis. None of these P series projectors come with a lens in the box, but Epson makes various lenses that support this series. I'll provide more details in the lens section of this review.

OVERVIEW

The Epson EB-PU1008W delivers up to 8,500 lumens and 20,000 hours of light source life thanks to the projector's high-powered laser-light engine. The EB-PU1008W could be the perfect projector for the unique challenges associated with large-venue events. While this projector's light output is impressive, there is much more to this display than its brightness. The EB-PU1008W is also tremendously flexible, making it an excellent solution for a variety of applications.

Equal color lumens and white lumens

As with all Epson 3LCD projectors, it produces as many color lumens as white lumens, ensuring a bright, vibrant image for large-venue events such as concerts and stage performances, among others.

The EB-PU1008W's native resolution is WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixels) and uses Epson's 4K Enhancement Technology which shifts the three LCD imagers two times (1,920 x 1,200 pixels x 2). Epson says this technology delivers a higher-than-WUXGA displayed resolution to produce crystal-clear, lifelike images.

Epson makes a total of 11 compatible lenses for the EB-PU1008W

The EB-PU1008W offers projectionists eleven different motorized lenses to choose from for installation flexibility.  These optional lenses include ultra-short-throw, short-throw, middle-throw, and long-throw lenses. A tool-free, quick-release lever enables fast, easy lens exchange.

The EB-PU1008W has wired LAN and HDBaseT for running audio, video, and control signals to the projector from a distance of up to 328 feet (100 meters). There is also a DVI-D connector and an HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.3. The EB-PU1008 accepts a wide range of video signals, including 4K content. The projector also features one RS-232c connector and a wired remote control input.

Software designed to simplify
Software designed to simplify

Epson offers six software tools, this includes mobile applications, for the EB-PU1008. These programs include Epson Projector Management software which is designed to provide network control and monitoring of the projector, and the Epson Projector Professional Tool (EPPT) software designed to simplify multiple-projector setups. These tools help operators control, configure and push content to multiple projectors individually or simultaneously via a wired or wireless network. These utilities provide the projectionist with advanced features such as edge blending. In the software section of my review, I’ll go into more detail regarding all the Epson software options compatible with this projector.
