We reviewed both the LG ProBeam BU60PST and its consumer-focused cousin, the ProBeam GRU510N and we were impressed with both unit's picture quality and feature set.  The ProBeam BU60PST is nearly identical to the ProBeam GRU510N projector, it is just brighter with some minor cosmetic updates. At 6000 ANSI lumens, the ProBeam BU60PST is the brightest projector that LG has ever produced.

With 6,000 lumens of output, it is bright enough to be utilized in many business, hospital, museum, and education environments where ambient light is present. In addition, the unit's laser light source is rated for up 20,000 hours allowing years of near maintenance-free operation.

The ProBeam BU60PST offers 1.6x lens zoom along with horizontal and vertical lens shift, which is rare on DLP projectors at this size and price point. Combined with the 12-point warping function, these features reduce image distortion and allow precise alignment with the screen.

While LG ProBeam models do not have all the smart features found in their Cinebeam products, the ProBeam BU60PST does have several notable features that enhance connectivity and productivity. The projector is powered by LG's WebOS with smart features, which can be helpful in business or education applications like Miracast® wireless screen mirroring, Wi-Fi, and a web browser. It even includes a DICOM picture mode. In addition to a USB input, HDBaseT™ compatibility allows a single CAT6 cable to carry 4K signals long distances to the ProBeam BU60PST.

The BU60PST is compatible with HDR10 content, and it is also one of a limited number of projectors capable of Dynamic HDR Tone Mapping. This feature, which was developed for LG's consumer CineBeam projectors, automatically adjusts the projector tone mapping curves based on the scene being played to optimize the unit's HDR performance.

The BU60PST's combination of high brightness, low maintenance, and good picture quality make it a compelling alternative to a large flat panel TV in a conference room, classroom, or any other professional application space.

Overview

The Panasonic PT-FRZ60 is a 6,000-lumen WUXGA installation projector with a laser/phosphor light engine that is rated for 20,000 hours of low maintenance operation. The PT-FRZ60 features a single DLP (0.67” DMD) chip and Panasonic claims the unit can deliver a dynamic contrast ratio of 20,000;1.

For enhanced installation flexibility, the PT-FRZ60 is equipped with 2.0x zoom and ample horizontal and vertical lens shift. The PT-FRZ60 is part of Panasonic’s FRZ Series of WUXGA installation laser projectors which also includes the 5200-lumen PT-FRZ50 and the 5000-lumen short throw PT- FRZ55. All three models are housed in a similar chassis (approx. 19-5/8” W × 6-5/8” H 19-3/8” D) and weigh between 35 to 36 pounds each. The two main differentiators between the three models are brightness and lens type.

The PT-FRZ60 has all the connections you would expect to find on a high-end installation projector including dual HDMI as well as a DIGITAL LINK/LAN (HDBaseT) input. While the PT-FRZ60 is a WUXGA projector, it can accept up to 4K@60P content via its HDMI and DIGITAL LINK terminals (HDBaseT) for better integration into systems containing a 4K flat panel display. If the signal is split between the projector and a 4K display, the 4K TV will receive the highest resolution possible.

Like most Panasonic projectors we have reviewed in the past, the PT-FRZ60 produced a bright, accurate looking image. Its great picture, combined with its high build quality and installation flexibility, are the reasons why if you're looking for an installation projector in this price range, PT-FRZ60 should be on your shortlist.

AAXA Technologies has specialized in small, portable “micro” or “Pico” projectors since 2008. Their products are intended for both entertainment and business purposes. Pricewise, the P6X is in about the middle of the AAXA projector lineup at a list price of $359. It is a bare-bones projector built for efficient use of its technology via sticking to strictly the essential functions required by users. It has an impressive battery life of up to 4 hours and can be used as a power bank to charge other devices. BenQ X1300i Gaming Projector

Today I get to talk to you about a cool looking performance projector that BenQ is releasing. I'm talking about the BenQ X1300i Smart Entertainment Home projector.

The X1300i is a gaming optimized home entertainment projector packing a ton of powerhouse  features. This beautiful little projector features a square compact design that is becoming associated with gaming projectors and I think it's a great design. The X1300i is a 120Hz 4 LED PJ with a 3000 ANSI lumens rating, according to BenQ, and a 5,000,000:1 published contrast ratio. I'll go down the list of features in detail below but I have to say the standout for me is BenQ's GameMaestro audio and video presets and the built in sound system tuned by treVolo. There's so much to talk about so here we go.

What is a gaming projector? At its core, it’s a projector like any other. A gaming projector is a device designed to project content onto a large screen for business or entertainment purposes. It has a light source and lens and a variety of inputs designed to accept video from a range of home entertainment devices such as Blu-rays, DVDs, media boxes, gaming systems and PC’s. Gaming projectors use the same core technology as any other type of projector, while offering specific components with a higher level of performance, much like a gaming PC compared to a standard PC.

Put simply, gaming projectors are faster, louder, more visually dynamic and tuned for gaming content. This results in a superior gaming experience for the user. And, regarding the BenQ X1300i--it just looks cool!

The X1300i is rated to deliver 3,000 lumens of light provided by a powerhouse 4LED light engine boasting an impressive 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The X1300i LED light engine is rated for up to 20,000 hours of light engine life in its Normal (High Power) mode.

The X1300i, like other BenQ i-series projectors, comes with a BenQ HDMI smart stick offering full access to a wide range of Google Chromecast features. The smart stick also comes with the Android TV operating system, providing access to over 5000 Android TV-dedicated applications through the Google Play App Store.

The BenQ X1300i is a Full HD (1920 x 1080) 4LED DLP HDR projector is specifically designed with a gaming focus. So, what does that mean? It means this projector offers an amazing array of supercharged features and technology all geared to make your gaming experience more immersive, dynamic and enjoyable. BenQ is aiming to have the X1300i take you where other “Gaming” projectors have yet to go.
Let’s get into it.

MosicGo 360 Portable Projection System

The Elite Projector offers multiple MosicGO systems, which are a portable home theater system designed for outdoor and indoor entertainment. We reviewed the MGFU-S with a MosicGO Sport that comes with everything you need for a backyard or poolside movie night or even an end-of-season camping trip.

For just $1,299, you get the projector, an adjustable tripod, 58” projector screen, and stand - not to mention carrying cases for all of it. The MGFU-S is one of the first projection systems introduced by Elite Projectors, which is a division of Elites Screens. These projector systems are now available with a variety of portable screen sizes.

OVERVIEW

All Elite MosicGO systems include an ultra-short throw Full HD (1,080 x 1920) DLP projector. The Osram RGB LED light source has a rated lifespan of up to 25,000 hours. If you used this projector for 3 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would take about 22 years before you reached the light engine rated life.

The Elite MosicGO is an ultra-short-throw projector with 1,000 lumens and can project an image of up to 120" diagonally. The projector may actually appear even brighter than its ANSI lumen rating because we perceive lumens coming from LED (and laser) projectors as being brighter than lamp-based projectors.

The projector has full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080), providing you with a sharp, clean image for all your entertainment needs, whether movies, TV shows or video games.

Elite offers the MosicGO projector in two variations: The MosicGO Sport and the MosicGO Lite. The MosicGO Sport has a built-in battery while the MosicGO Lite does not. The MosicGO Sport systems cost $300 more than the Lite series, but the integrated 37,200mAh Power Bank is worth it for the enhanced portability. Since it has an internal battery, you can set up this projector virtually anywhere that has solid ground.

The battery should last up to 3 hours when projecting video and up to 30 hours when using the projector to play music. You can get one good movie in, or hours of video games, before needing to charge the projector. The battery can also be used to charge a laptop or cellphone via the projector’s USB-C / USB-A port.

The MosicGO systems were originally focused on portable applications. Many customers also wanted to utilize the projector with a larger, permanently mounted screen. So, while we were in the process of reviewing the MosicGO Sport (MGFU-S), Elite Projectors launched a new system series called the MosicGO 360. These systems come with an Elite Yard Master 58” CineWhite screen and stand for portable use, as well as a fixed screen that can be permanently mounted in your home or office. They are also available in either the Sport (with battery) or Lite projector variations.

By combining the MosicGO Sport and MosicGO Lite with a variety of portable and fixed screens, Elite has 24 different system options to choose from. Since I have a couple of Elite Screens which are the right size and equipped with the right screen materials, I could also evaluate the performance of a couple of the new MosicGo Sport 360 combinations as well.

Though there are many outdoor projectors on the market, projectors and screens are rarely under the same business umbrella. That you can get a good projector and a good screen or screens under the same price tag makes this projection system unique, which is why we award the MosicGO systems a Special Interest Award.

Hisense markets their line-up of ultra-short throw laser projectors as Laser TVs, which are designed to make front projection more accessible and appealing to a wider range of consumers. The term “Laser TV” has also been adopted by other manufacturers to describe projectors in this category. It is much easier than saying, “4K DLP Ultra-Short Throw Laser Smart Projector.”

Hisense’s goal was to build a line of projectors that could replace a TV in an environment where a large TV just will not fit. We reviewed Hisense Laser TVs in the past, and we have always been impressed by their picture quality and features. Check out my review of the Hisense 100L10E to read more about why we were impressed.

While previous Hisense Laser TVs delivered great performance, they were more expensive than many competitive manufacturer’s laser TV models putting them out of reach of many customers. With a retail price of $3999, the new 100L5F is the most affordable Laser TV that Hisense has ever offered.

The 100L5F ships with a 100” ambient light rejecting screen. The screen is optimized for an ultra-short throw projector, which improves the viewing experience during the day or when the lights are on. Since the 100L5F is designed to serve as a TV replacement, it includes most of the features that consumers would expect in a flat panel TV including a TV tuner, internal speakers, and of course, smart features.

Like a Hisense Smart TV, the 100L5F can be voice controlled using the included voice remote control that has a Google Assistant built-in. It also offers a wide variety of apps such as Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, and Prime Video. Since the 100L5F is a DLP projector with a laser light engine, it should deliver years of maintenance-free operation, just like a flat panel TV would.

OVERVIEW

Hisense-100L5F-pic-5

The Hisense 100L5F Laser TV is a 4K DLP laser ultra-short throw smart projector. With a current advertised price of $3,999, it is the most affordable Laser TV that Hisense has ever offered. The projector’s single DLP chip can reproduce 4K UHD resolution (3,840 x 2,160) via pixel shifting.

The projector's chassis sits just over four inches from the screen, so it can sit on a nice credenza or table in the front of the room. There’s even AV furniture designed specifically to hold the Hisense Laser TV Chassis.

The 100L5F, like previous Hisense Laser TV models, is bundled with a 100” ambient light rejecting screen design specifically for ultra-short throw projectors. The screen uses StarBright CLR material which rejects a lot of ambient light to deliver a good projected image during the day or in a brighter room.

You could easily make a case for utilizing a projector as a TV replacement, especially since projectors have the ability to produce a massive picture from a compact chassis, which makes them a great solution for an apartment, dorm room, or other small space. The Laser TV was not designed for a home theater, but for a living room, den, family room, media room, or anywhere you have some lighting control.

There are usually several shortcomings when you compare most projectors with a flat panel TV. For example, the lamp in a traditional projector dims over time and must be changed every few thousand hours. This is not only inconvenient, but it adds additional cost to operation. This shortcoming is eliminated by the Laser illumination found in the 100L5F, which can provide years of maintenance-free operation.

Also, while many projectors can deliver a great picture, most projectors are not very smart, and they lack capabilities such as streaming apps that are common on most flat panel TV’s today. The 100L5F utilizes an Android TV operating system, similar to what is found in many of their newest flat panel TVs. You also have all the apps and capabilities normally found in a Smart TV, including Google Assistant, which allows you to control not only the projector but a wide variety of compatible smart home devices using your voice.

The 100L5F is the first Hisense Laser TV compatible with both HDR10 and HLG content.

The Hisense 100L5F Laser TV combines all the smart capabilities of flat panel TVs with the long life of a LED light engine and 4K resolution to create a true flat panel TV replacement.

Overview

The Philips PicoPix Max is a portable DLP projector that offers Full HD (1,920x1,080) resolution. The LED light source is rated for over 30,000 hours of use. Philips doesn’t provide a lumen output specification for the PicoPix Max, but we will measure it with our own test equipment and provide our findings in the performance section of this review. It comes with most of the major streaming service apps (Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, YouTube) pre-installed as well as the previously mentioned media player that supports a variety of popular file types, and Firefox web browser.

With an MSRP of $899, the Max is the most powerful (and most expensive) of the Philips PicoPix line of projectors that also includes the PicoPix Micro, and the PicoPix Nano. The PicoPix Max is an excellent choice for anyone that wants the functionality of a Smart TV with the portability of a paperback novel.

Also, while many projectors can deliver a great picture, most projectors are not very smart, and they lack capabilities such as streaming apps that are common on most flat panel TV’s today. The 100L10E utilizes a version of the Hisense smart platform which are similar to the smart interfaces found on some of their flat panel TVs. You have all the apps and capabilities normally found in a Smart TV including Amazon Alexa, which allows you to control not only the projector but a wide variety of compatible Smart home devices using your voice.

The Hisense Laser TV models combine all the smart capabilities of flat panel TVs with the long life of a LED light engine and 4K resolution to create a true flat panel TV replacement.

Great picture, smart features, and low maintenance make the 100L10E a compelling alternative to a large flat panel TV, especially in room where space is at a premium

Overview

The Casio XJ-F211WN is a solid-state projector, with Casio’s hybrid laser/LED light engine. That light engine has a lifespan of up to 20,000 hours. Solid-state light engines tend to cost more up front than their lamp based counterparts, but the low cost of maintenance over the projector’s lifetime evens that out. This Casio is the lowest cost solid state projector we’ve reviewed for this year’s report, so, naturally, we felt it prudent to give it the Special Award for Value Solid State.

This Casio has WXGA resolution (1280 x 800), which is the business and education world’s 720p. It’s the lower resolution of HD, with a different aspect ratio. The aspect ratio, or width/height ratio of the projected image, is 16:10 instead of 16:9, so make sure you get a 16:10 screen if you’re buying a new screen.

WXGA is plenty sharp for most business and K-12 applications. Higher resolutions, such as WUXGA (1920 x 1200) and 4K (3840 x 2160), are really only necessary in a few choice circumstances. Any graphics or video heavy applications, such as a video production class or graphic design class, would benefit from a higher resolution of at least WUXGA.

I can’t see a high school classroom getting a 4K projector, unless it’s in an affluent area where there is a greater focus on the arts. Higher education may have more of a need for WUXGA, but rarely 4K, except in the case of medical films, scientific renderings, simulation, architecture, film and design applications.

The Casio XJ-F211WN claims 3,500 lumens, though it did not meet claim. Casio generally comes in lower than their claim when measured, but the F211WN is still plenty bright for your standard to large sized K-12 classroom, and for most conference rooms or board rooms. We’ll get deeper into lumens and perceived brightness on the Performance Page of this review.

The XJ-F211WN has both wired and wireless LAN via an optional adapter, and includes several features that are desirable for presentations – the application I imagine this projector will most be used for. The projector includes Casio’s Education Solutions, making it an easy choice for those who require such a feature set.
