Viewsonic PJD7820HD Projector Review
Viewsonic PJD7820HD Projector - Warranty
Viewsonic provides a 1 year parts and labor warranty on the PJD7820HD projector. In addition, the projector comes with 1 year of “express” replacement program.
Comparing to business projectors near the price, one year’s common, but there are plenty of two year warranties. That said, Viewsonic’s provided express replacement program for the first year, improves things, but there are competitors with two years warranty and replacement, there are 3 year warranties, with 1st year replacement… On the other hand there aren’t yet any other $699 1080p projectors, so you can say that it has the best warranty of any $699 or less 1080p projector! Consider Viewsonic’s warranty to be better than a goodly number of other low cost DLP projectors, but two years isn’t hard to find.
On the home side, one year would be typical for under $1000 projectors except that Viewsonic goes the extra mile, with the replacement program. Replacement programs are relatively rare on the home entertainment side of things. You’ll get that 1 year replacement program as long as you register your projector. Don’t register it, no replacement program! So, pay attention and register it!
Note that there are a few sub-$1000 projectors with two years and even three year warranties out there. That said, the only 2 year I can think of right at the Viewsonic PJD7820HD’s price point is Epson’s HC750HD, but consider that the Epson is only a 720p resolution projector.
With one year warranties, I suggest you consider an extended warranty, or purchasing your projector with a credit card that offers an extended warranty. A problem after two years, you likely can buy a better projector for less, minimizing any financial setback.
Although I have little to report about Viewsonic’s support after sale, I can say from my level of contact – with marketing, PR, and product management folks I work with, Viewsonic is an extremely responsive company. If that level of support carries over to consumers, then I would say that they have superior support, but that’s just me connecting the dots.
Bottom line on warranty: Could be longer, but solid for the price point! And if you do need warranty service in the first year, you’ll likely love that they offer express replacement!
