The Hisense M2 Pro is a compact 4K “smart mini projector” which retails for $1299 is the company’s smallest and most portable 4K projector to date. The projector features a Hisense-developed Triple Laser light source with a rated brightness of 1300 lumens and can display 110% of the BT.2020 color space.
The M2 Pro includes many of the features found on Hisense’s higher-end C2 Series models, including the VIDAA Smart TV platform, offering access to apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, and Apple TV, and voice-assistant compatibility. The M2 Pro supports all major HDR formats, including Dolby Vision.
The M2 Pro incorporates Hisense’s “AI 4K Clarity” technology, which includes an AI-powered upscaler that enhances lower-resolution content, AI noise reduction to improve picture clarity, and an AI HDR upscaler to optimize contrast and highlights.
The M2 Pro is compact and light enough to carry between rooms or homes, yet it is bright enough to deliver a large, immersive image. The M2 Pro tiltable stand makes it easy to aim the M2 Pro at any flat surface, including the ceiling.
The projector includes several features to simplify setup, including automatic keystone correction, automatic focus, 1.3X optical zoom, and Intelligent Wall Color Adaptation, which optimizes color reproduction when projecting on non-white surfaces.
When designing the M2 Pro, Hisense leveraged many of the technologies from its line of award-winning projectors to produce one of the best portable lifestyle projectors on the market.

The M2 Pro is a compact DLP lifestyle projector that uses a 0.47’ DMD with XPR to display 4K Ultra HD (3840 × 2160 displayed) onscreen resolution. Its Triple Laser light source can deliver up to 1300 lumens of brightness and reproduce 110% of the BT.2020 color gamut.
Hisense is already a market leader in smart ultra-short-throw projectors, often referred to as Laser TVs, but it is also striving to offer options for customers seeking lifestyle projectors. A lifestyle projector is a category of compact, design-focused models that emphasize convenience, versatility, and ease of use. They are designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday living spaces rather than dedicated cinema rooms. Lifestyle speakers are often portable, featuring built-in speakers, compact enclosures, and automatic setup functions that make them easy to move from room to room or use outdoors for casual entertainment.
The target customer for lifestyle projectors includes consumers who value a balance of style, performance, and convenience. Lifestyle projectors are a great option for those who want an immersive viewing experience without the hassle of mounting a traditional projector. Lifestyle models like the M2 Pro should appeal to apartment dwellers, younger audiences, and professionals seeking portable entertainment for travel, outdoor events, or flexible home use.

At CES 2025, Hisense introduced the C2 Series, which is a trio of lifestyle projectors designed to cater to various user needs and budgets. The M2 Pro shares several core technologies and a common design philosophy with Hisense’s larger, brighter C2-series models. Both platforms are built around Pure Triple Color lasers, 4K-class DLP imaging with pixel shifting, wide color gamut, and comprehensive HDR coverage, including HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby technology.
In addition, the M2 Pro runs on Hisense’s latest VIDAA operating system, and users can access popular streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and Disney+. To maximize connectivity, the M2 Pro also includes AirPlay 2, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and HDMI 2.1 with eARC and ALLM.
The M2 Pro also supports 3D content. While there isn’t much new 3D content being created, this feature is great for users who have a library of 3D discs.
Where the M2 Pro diverges from the C2 series is in size and brightness. Hisense C2 models are larger, brighter, and feature a larger audio system. This makes them a better match for semi-fixed living-room setups. By comparison, the M2 Pro is designed to deliver a similar color and HDR experience in a smaller, more portable package, making it easier to move from place to place while still offering quick and easy setup.
The M2 Pro measures approximately 7.6 inches wide, 8.6 inches deep, and 9.1 inches tall, and it weighs about 8.6 pounds (3.9kg). The M2 Pro is easy for most users to move a projector between a family room and a bedroom, or to a friend’s house for a sporting event. While compact, the cabinet of the M2 Pro is large enough to house a three-color laser light source, 1.3X optical zoom, and a high-quality stereo speaker system.
The lens is at the top right of the projector's front panel. Next to the lens on the left is a group of sensors for the projector's auto adjustment modes, including Auto Focus, Auto Keystone Alignment, Auto Obstacle Avoidance, and Auto Screen Alignment.
The projectors’ connections are located on the rear of the unit. They include an HDMI input that supports HDMI 2.1 with eARC and ALLM, enabling one-cable audio return to a soundbar or AVR and automatic low-latency switching for compatible gaming sources.
Wireless support includes Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and Bluetooth for accessories. The onboard media player supports a wide range of video and image formats, which can be accessed from a USB Stick plugged into the projector’s USB 3.0 port or from your home network.

The included remote looks like one packaged with other Hisense projectors. There are dedicated Service Buttons for many built-in streaming media services. They have a quick access button for the projector's built-in Media player. Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and Apple TV+.
Located at the top center of the remote is a dedicated button for the VIDAA Assistant and voice control of a wide range of smart features, including but not limited to Voice Search, Compatible Projector Switching, Hardware Controls, and many IoT (Internet of Things) compatible devices. There is also a free VIDAA mobile app available for iOS and Android devices, which allows you to control the projector and access apps directly.
The M2 Pro is equipped with a 1.3X optical zoom lens. Many compact projectors rely on fixed-focus lenses and digital zoom to adapt image size, but this approach sacrifices clarity and effective resolution. The Hisense P2 Pro can project a 100" image from between 87 to 105 inches away.

The M2 Pro includes several features to simplify setup, which include Auto Focus and Auto Screen Alignment. The autofocus feature uses a high-precision sensor to detect the distance between the projector and the screen and adjust the focus accordingly. The C1's autofocus is fast, with little to no searching visible.
The Auto Keystone Correction allows the projector to detect and correct any distortion caused when projecting onto an uneven surface or at a non-perpendicular angle. Auto Obstacle Avoidance can detect objects on the wall, such as curtains or blinds, and automatically adjust the image to compensate for any obstruction, eliminating the need for manual adjustment.
Auto Eye Protection uses sensors to detect when someone approaches the front of the projector and turns off the lamp to prevent eye damage, which is incredibly useful when you have children in the house.
While some Hisense ultra-short-throw projectors utilize Google TV, the M2 Pro uses the VIDAA smart platform, which is also available on C2 Series lifestyle projector and select Hisense Smart TVs. Developed by Hisense, VIDAA is designed for fast performance and simplicity, which prioritizes quick access to live TV, streaming apps, and device inputs.
Since it is optimized for Hisense hardware, it results in smooth operation even on budget models like portable projectors. The menu system was quick and responsive, and it includes all the picture and sound adjustments needed to fine-tune the projector’s performance. The menu system is extensive and broken into several submenus for picture and sound adjustments. There’s even a dedicated onscreen gaming focus UI.
The VIDAA operating system makes it easy to access popular streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and Disney+. It also includes a free live TV service, called VIDAA TV, which includes hundreds of news, sports, and entertainment channels. While the content is mainly in standard definition and high definition, it is a great feature if you’re looking for additional content without having to pay for another streaming service.
While the VIDAA operating system provides access to a wide range of content, the selection of apps is limited compared to a Google TV-equipped projector. Screen sharing and content sharing are supported, and iOS users can use AirPlay 2 to cast content from Apple devices.
Most modern households use streaming apps to access most entertainment content. The user experience is like that of a Hisense smart TV, but the M2 Pro offers the convenience of easy room-to-room movement.
While most people will utilize the projector’s internal streaming services and apps to view most of the content, the M2 Pro does have a couple of connections located on the rear. These include a single HDMI input that supports both eARC and ALLM. There was also a USB port where you can plug in an external hard drive or USB stick to access photos or videos.
The M2 Pro has several preset SDR picture modes. The most accurate are FILMMAKER MODE, THEATER DAY and THEATER NIGHT. The main difference between these modes are their default Contrast and Gamma settings. I primarily viewed SDR content in FILMMAKER MODE. In rooms with higher ambient light, the STANDARD mode is a good option since it is slightly cooler and more saturated.
The projectors’ tri-laser light source delivers vibrant, saturated colors similar to those found on Hisense C2 series projectors, as well as their ultra-short-throw models. Three discrete laser primaries can enable an extremely wide color gamut (over 100% of BT.2020) without incurring the brightness losses associated with color filters.
There was minimal rainbow effect even when viewing brighter scenes. I did notice a little color fringing and some slight laser speckle, but both are less than what I have seen on earlier tri-laser-equipped Hisense projectors.
Since a tri-laser light source can reproduce a wide range of colors, when playing SDR content, colors appear overly saturated and unrealistic. Hisense has extensive experience with RGB laser light sources, so the M2 Pro does an excellent job mapping its wide color gamut to display Rec. 709 mastered material properly.
Since the video processing is based on what is utilized on Hisense flat panel televisions, the projector also includes excellent motion compensation circuitry. There are also eight preset HDR picture modes, each of which offers different contrast, Gamma, and color temperature settings, but none of them looked overly offensive. The most accurate being the FILMMAKER MODE and the HDR THEATER.
When viewing HDR content under high ambient light, HDR STANDARD is a good option, as the color temperature is cooler, which helps balance out the warmer ambient lighting.
For those who want to fine-tune the projector's image quality, the M2 Pro includes all the image adjustments found on Hisense Laser TVs and higher-end Lifestyle projectors. You can easily use several free test patterns found on the Murideo website and their YouTube channel to adjust the projector's brightness, gamma, and contrast. Murideo also has detailed written instructions for using its test patterns in the resource section of its website. Also, check out our YouTube video on utilizing several test patterns called Optimize The Image of a Projector or TV Using Free Murideo Test Patterns.
Overall, I was incredibly impressed with the projector's color reproduction. The image resembled many of the award-winning Hisense projectors we have reviewed in the past. The main difference between the M2 Pro and the Hisense C2 Series is brightness.
The Hisense M2 Pro has a rated brightness of 1300 lumens, which is good for a portable projector. To estimate the projector's maximum brightness, I switched the unit to its brightest preset picture mode, STANDARD. I ensured the laser light source was set to its maximum Luminance Level and the Brightness Enhancer was engaged. I took 3-4 readings, approximately 15-20% from the center of the lens.
Hisense M2 Pro Brightness: 1355 Lumens
The M2 Pro measured 1355 lumens, which is slightly higher than the unit’s rated brightness. While the THEATER NIGHT mode is the most color accurate, the STANDARD mode offers the best balance of brightness and color reproduction. I would not recommend using the Brightness Enhancer feature because the image has a greenish hue.

Hisense says the M2 Pro can be utilized on screens up to 200 inches, but just because you can do something does not mean you should. When viewing HDR content, the M2 Pro can produce a reasonably punchy picture on a 100-inch matte-white screen in a room with low ambient light. If you are watching mainly SDR material on a high-gain screen, you could stretch the size to 120 inches in a dark space.
Hisense lists the M2 Pro’s native contrast as 1000:1. The M2 Pro also features dynamic laser dimming, along with a couple of other specialized features designed to enhance visual contrast scene by scene. You could easily spend days experimenting with the different setting combinations to find the perfect solution.
For example, the M2 Pro features a dark detail mode, which effectively enhances shadow detail and dark scenes while maintaining decent black levels. While the M2 Pro cannot produce the inky black delivered by a home theater projector, its black level and shadow detail are better than most portable models.
The M2 Pro supports a wide range of High Dynamic Range formats, including HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision. Since M2 Pro utilizes video processing found in Hisense’s more expensive projector, it includes HDR tone mapping and offers an extensive range of picture adjustments.
When viewing HDR in a dark space, I used HDR THEATER mode with the Dynamic Tone Mapping feature off, which is the default setting. This preserves the maximum amount of highlight detail. However, if you’re going to be viewing HDR under low or moderate ambient light or using a larger screen, I would recommend switching the Dynamic Tone Mapping feature on to maximize full-screen brightness.
Engaging the projector’s Dynamic Tone Mapping feature makes HDR content look noticeably brighter, but you will sacrifice some highlight detail. I believe this compromise is worth it when watching most HDR content, especially on screens larger than 90 inches.
Since HDR content often looks dimmer than SDR material, we usually recommend switching your source to SDR when using a large screen with a lower-brightness projector. However, when the M2 Pro’s Dynamic HDR Tone Mapping is engaged, the overall frame brightness is higher than that of many 2000-lumen projectors I have reviewed.
The M2 Pro also supports 3D. However, optional active 3d glasses are required, and there is a brightness penalty. The fact that 3D is supported makes the M2 Pro stand out for users who still value 3D content.

The M2 Pro includes a game mode. It also features Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) via its HDMI input, which automatically switches the projector into its gaming-optimized mode when connected to a compatible console or PC and detects gaming content. The M2 Pro also includes a dedicated gaming submenu, where you can select picture modes tailored to specific game types, such as first-person shooters or role-playing games. There’s even a feature that allows you to zoom in on the portion of a map to help you find your way through a game.
In its Gaming mode, with DLP Turbo mode engaged, we measured an input lag of 27ms when playing games at 1080p@120fps and 38ms when playing in 4K@60fps. For casual, couch-distance play at 4K60, the experience should be responsive enough for most non-competitive genres.
The M2 Pro has a 2 x 10-watt sound system that supports DTS Virtual: X processing and Dolby Audio. I was impressed with the projector’s sound system. While the projector is compact, its sound system plays loud enough to fill a small to moderate-sized room.
It includes several preset sound modes, along with a wide range of audio adjustments. For example, there’s a dialogue clarity adjustment, which improves vocal clarity when watching a movie or listening to a sports telecast. When engaged, the virtual surround modes deliver a wide soundstage at moderate volumes.
Of course, if you’re looking for even more audio output to go with the immersive image, you can utilize the eARC-equipped HDMI input to feed a compatible (Soundbar) or AV receiver or wirelessly stream audio to a Bluetooth device. In my bedroom, I paired the projector to a pair of Bluetooth headphones so I can listen to the TV shows and movies without disturbing my wife late at night.
The Hisense M2 Pro ($1299 MSRP) is a compact portable 4K lifestyle projector that is feature-packed and delivers excellent performance. The M2 Pro is Hisense’s smallest and most portable 4K projector to date. Weighing just 8.6 pounds, the M2 Pro can be easily moved from room to room. Hisense even includes a carrying case.
The M2 Pro is equipped with a version of Hisense’s proprietary triple-laser light engine, which can deliver 1300 lumens of brightness while reproducing 110 % of the BT.2020 color space. The M2 Pro can produce a reasonably punchy HDR picture on matte white screens in the 80- to 100-inch range with modest ambient light.
The M2 Pro supports a wide range of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, and HDR10. The M2 Pro also features a Dynamic Tone Mapping function, which effectively enhances the on-screen brightness of HDR10 content without clipping highlight details.
The M2 Pro is equipped with Hisense’s VIDDA Smart TV platform, which offers access to streaming apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, and Apple TV, as well as voice-assistant compatibility.

The M2 Pro has a built-in 2 x 10-watt stereo system that supports DTS Virtual: X processing and Dolby Audio. The system plays loud enough to fill a small to medium-sized room.
The M2 Pro is a great option for casual gamers seeking a portable lifestyle projector. The unit includes several dedicated game-related picture and sound settings. In game mode, the input lag can be as low as 28ms while playing content in 1080@120fps
To simplify setup and maximize installation flexibility, it includes several features, such as automatic keystone correction, automatic focus, optical zoom, and “Intelligent Wall Color Adaptation” to optimize color when projecting on non-white surfaces.
Overall, I was extremely impressed with the M2 Pro’s feature set, picture, and sound quality. The M2 Pro is one of the best portable projectors that I have reviewed in a long time.
