The ViewSonic LX60HD is a 1080p Full HD (1920 x 1080) projector with a $339.99 MSRP, powered by an LED light source capable of producing up to 630 lumens of manufacturer-rated brightness for a maximum screen size of 140 inches diagonally, with a contrast ratio of 4,200:1 (full on/off).

ViewSonic has opted to use a newer generation of LCD imager in place of a DLP imager, which can display up to 16.7 million colors on screen and operate for an estimated 20,000 hours of life. With a sealed optical engine, the projector is designed to be durable against dust and moisture. It also offers wireless connectivity through built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for screen mirroring.

When it comes to streaming content, ViewSonic has included the latest Google TV operating system onboard, enabling users to access over 10,000 applications and stream content, such as movies, television shows, and games, directly from the projector without the need for an external dongle. ViewSonic also included full support for a native Netflix application, offering all the latest Netflix features and functionality without the need for complicated workarounds, such as sideloading, that are often found on competitors' projectors.

The ViewSonic LX60HD offers users a comprehensive suite of automatic features, designed to simplify the setup and operation of the projector. These include auto and manual adjustments for focus, auto screen fit, and auto obstacle avoidance. For image alignment, the LX60HD provides automatic horizontal and vertical keystone correction, as well as 4-corner adjustment, to ensure the projected image is square to the projector.

If you plan to project directly onto the wall, the LX60HD features the ability to avoid projecting an image over objects, such as hanging pictures, on the wall. The LX60HD also features a robust color management system, allowing you to dial in accurate color for your projection space, a feature not usually found on value-priced projectors.

The ViewSonic LX60HD is currently the most technologically advanced and feature-rich Google TV-powered LED projector available today for under $350.

OVERVIEW

ViewSonic_LX60HD M#1

The global portable projection market is experiencing rapid growth, valued at $1.74 billion in 2023 and expected to more than double in size over the next ten years to an estimated $3.6 billion, according to Presdence Research (September 2024). Projections for North American growth are staggering, and manufacturers will meet or exceed these estimates by offering value-priced projectors with an array of advanced features geared to meet the demands of the average portable projector customer.

The global portable projector market is forecasted to experience significant growth over the next decade. With models like the LX60HD, ViewSonic is positioning itself to capture a considerable share of the market's estimated growth. The ViewSonic LX60HD offers very competitive features and performance at its price point, setting it apart in the growing sea of portable projectors available for sale today.

ViewSonic_LX60HD_GTV

The ViewSonic LX60HD is designed for general home entertainment displays. To appeal to the widest potential group of customers, access to the largest selection of movies, television, and games is crucial. ViewSonic does this by providing users with a built-in Google TV operating system along with a native Netflix application. Building Google TV directly into the projector eliminates the need for external streaming devices, offering an all-in-one smart media solution with access to over 10,000 streaming applications, including more streaming media, productivity, and even gaming apps than any other projector OS platform. Google TV also offers a simple setup and provides a more streamlined content experience, including offering smart recommendations for content based on the user's watch history across all their applications.

Google TV powered projectors offer users security because the software gets regular updates for access to the latest features and security. What this means is your projector works better and provides you and your loved ones with a more secure online experience. Google TV on the ViewSonic LX60HD is optimized for the big screen, whereas portable projectors without Google TV often require third-party app markets and software workarounds.

Even if a third-party app market provides all the applications you want, like Netflix, you won’t know if it will work until you take the time to download and run it. And, even if it runs, which is a big if, third-party marketplace apps can have limited features and performance, such as low-resolution streaming or support for a touchscreen-only interface. Applications not provided by the Google Play Store often require complicated installation processes, including sideloading, and can have less-than-desirable results.

Built-in Google TV and a native Netflix app provide the best opportunity for a seamless, enjoyable, and secure streaming entertainment experience.

ViewSonic_1080P

The ViewSonic LX60HD displays an image up to 140 inches, transforming any room into a personal home theater. Compared to similarly priced projectors with half the brightness, the 1080p resolution of the LX50HD projects crisp, clear visuals from edge to edge, displaying subtle details that standard definition might miss. From the fine textures in a costume to expansive landscapes, full HD at up to 140 inches diagonally provides a realistic and engaging picture that content creators intended for you to see.

This large format viewing experience is perfect for the high-octane energy of a live sporting event, with every play visible in vivid detail. Gamers will appreciate the clarity that such a large projected image provides, as well as the competitive edge that comes with gaming on a giant 140-inch screen.

Movies and TV shows are displayed in a cinematic experience with a 140-inch display. The combination of a large display and Full HD resolution ensures a level of immersion that pulls you into the story, making you feel like you are part of the action.

Projecting a 140-inch image means backyard viewing turns a simple outdoor space into a personal cinema. This large screen size is a significant upgrade from smaller indoor TVs, creating a truly immersive atmosphere for backyard movie nights, sports viewing parties, or video game tournaments.. Being able to project up to a 140 inch screen ensures that everyone, no matter where they are sitting on the lawn or patio, has a clear view of the on-screen action. It eliminates the need for guests to huddle around a small screen. It provides a better shared viewing experience where every play is visible and characters in a movie feel larger than life, because they actually are!

ViewSonic_LX60HD_M#2

The ViewSonic LX60HD features an RGB LED light source. This type of light source uses individual red, green, and blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to create the image on the screen. RGB LEDs are excellent at producing vibrant colors, making movies and games look visually appealing. Solid-state devices, such as LEDs, run more efficiently, which generally results in a longer lifespan. LEDs also offer instant on/off functionality and contribute to more compact projector designs, as they don’t rely on filaments or gas discharges that degrade more gradually and predictably than lamp-based light sources.

The ViewSonic LX60HD has a rated brightness of 650 lumens; while not the brightest, it is more than competitive with the majority of projectors in its price range. As long as the space you are using the LX60HD in has minimal uncontrolled ambient light sources, it is more than enough to get the job done.

The ViewSonic LX60HD's optical components and light path are fully sealed, resulting in superior dust and moisture resistance compared to projectors that don’t seal their light path. This sealed design provides a long lifespan and consistent image quality. Another benefit of having a sealed light path is that users don’t have to worry about changing filters, as this type of system eliminates the need for filter changes.

ViewSonic_LX60HD_Geo#2

The ViewSonic LX60HD features advanced automatic settings designed to streamline the setup process and transform formerly tedious tasks, such as setup, into a seamless, instant-on experience. ViewSonic features a range of auto modes, such as auto focus, that deliver a crystal-clear, razor-sharp picture without any manual intervention. This is particularly beneficial if you are the kind of user who frequently moves their projector or simply wants to get to the main event faster.

The projector also features automatic keystone correction, which precisely addresses both horizontal and vertical distortions. In addition to the 4-corner adjustment, it ensures that even when the projector is placed at an off-angle, the resulting image is a perfect rectangle, eliminating geometric distortions and allowing for flexible placement in any room.

The LX60HD also features Auto Screen Fit mode, which enables the projector to detect the borders of your screen and scale the image to fit perfectly, eliminating the need for manual adjustments and ensuring every pixel is utilized for a perfectly framed picture.

Auto obstacle avoidance scans the projection area and, if it detects an object like a picture frame, a piece of furniture, or even a houseplant, it intelligently resizes the image to avoid the obstruction. This means you can get your movie night started without having to rearrange your entire living space.

These auto modes collectively eliminate the common frustrations of projector setup, offering real convenience and allowing users to focus on what truly matters: enjoying their content. And for those who desire absolute control, rest assured that each of these remarkable auto modes is accompanied by a suite of manual controls, providing the best of both worlds: effortless automation and granular customization.

The ViewSonic LX60HD is a compact, portable projector with dimensions typically found in lifestyle projector form factors. The LX60HD measures (WxHxD) 12.00" x 8.74" x 12.13" (228 x 227 x 159 mm) and weighs 4.5 lbs (3.13 Kg). None of the projector's four rubber feet is adjustable, but the LX60HD does offer one adjustable foot that unscrews to tilt the front of the projector up to about ¾ of an inch. With the projector being relatively light, ViewSonic has included a standard ¼-20 female tripod screw in the center of the projector's bottom.

The front of the chassis houses the Lens, IR receiver, and an image adjustment sensor for auto-calibration features, including auto-keystone correction and focus. Looking at the back of the ViewSonic LX60HD, you will find two (2) USB-2 Type-A inputs for connecting a range of compatible USB devices, a single HDMI 1.4 port supporting signals up to 1920 x 1080p resolution, a single audio out, and an AV input. The LX60HS also supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and WiFi networking.

ViewSonic_LX60HD_Inputs#1

The ViewSonic LX60HD features a fixed lens and can project an image diagonally between 50 and 140 inches. To project a 140-inch image, the projector must be positioned a minimum of twelve (12) feet from the screen. The projected image appears sharp, with no significant chromatic aberration or lens artifacts, until approximately 80% of the screen's center, which is excellent for a portable projector in this unit's class and price.

ViewSonic’s Automatic Focus technology does an excellent job of simplifying setup within its limits. The projector's auto geometric correction features, like AUTO KEYSTONE, did not work consistently for me. Most irritating was that after turning the projector off and on, my manual four-corner adjustments were just slightly off after restarting the projector. The only way I could keep this from happening was to disable all the AUTO GEOMETRIC CORRECTION modes. I was able to leave the AUTO FOCUS mode engaged.

The projector features a typical Google TV-style remote control, complete with a D-Pad for navigation and a central “enter” button. The remote does not contain any shortcuts to streaming services.

ViewSonic_LX60HD_Lens#1

Google TV OS is everything that I’ve come to expect. It’s powerful, comes with all the standard Google TV features, and is easy to navigate. If this were the only menu ViewSonic had installed on the LX60HD, I would stop right here, but unfortunately, that is not the case.

Google TV OS does not feature any adjustment menus for the projector. It’s not that this projector doesn't come with picture adjustments; it’s just that ViewSonic has placed them in a completely separate menu that is not part of Google TV OS. This visually unique menu is accessed by long-pressing the PROJECTOR SETTINGS button on the remote control.

This menu gives you access to file management, basic settings (projector physical setup, not picture or sound), and ADVANCED SETTINGS, where you can find power and audio settings, but not picture adjustments. To be clear, there are other projector manufacturers who also have two distinct menu systems on one projector. BenQ is one. However, unlike just a couple of years ago, since 2024, it has not been necessary. I’ve reviewed several portable projectors this year that feature fully integrated picture adjustments, including a comprehensive color management system that can be controlled directly from within Google TV.

Honestly, I would be just fine with two, but as I stated above, ViewSonic does not include any image adjustments, such as color, in the PROJECTOR SETTINGS menu. For some reason, ViewSonic has included a third menu, which is the only place a user can go to access the projector's picture adjustment features, including the color management system. This menu is activated by quickly pressing the PROJECTOR SETTINGS button on the remote. This third menu appears differently and functions differently from the Google TV and long-press PROJECTOR SETTINGS menus. But wait, there’s more confusion ahead. If you want to change projector inputs, you don’t do it via the Google TV settings (like almost every other Google TV-powered projector).

To access the INPUTS menu, you need to activate yet another, that’s four, menu by pressing the INPUTS selection button on the remote control. If you misplace your remote control, you will not be able to access these menus via the projector. You can’t even power down the projector via the Google TV OS. Powering off a projector is typically a basic function of the Google TV OS, but it is not available on the LX60HD.

I couldn't get the projector's AUTO SCREEN fit functionality to work properly, even after restarting the projector multiple times. I had to adjust the focus manually. Another issue I encountered was that after manually adjusting the image to fit the screen via the 4-CORNER settings, the projector would restart with the geometry slightly off on the right side of the screen. I either had to put up with a small sliver of the screen not being used or manually adjust the corner settings each time. I ended up leaving it. How annoying. There is nothing intuitive about the way VeiwSonic chose their menu system or its feature placement.

When it comes to speed, the ViewSonic menus are quick to navigate from feature to feature and respond promptly to button presses, with no visible lag or extreme delay. The Google TV menu is not so lucky. Google TV takes an excessive amount of time to load at startup. Suppose you try to move vertically or horizontally at the same pace you used in the ViewSonic menus. In that case, the image will display a range of artifacts, including pausing then quickly catching up, freezing, and visibly loading content, or the most common artifact of the Google TV OS menu stuttering.

PERFORMANCE

The screen used for testing in this review is a Da-Lite 110-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio Tensioned Designer Contour Electrol screen system that sells for an MSRP of $3,499. This screen uses the company's ultra-white HD Progressive 1.1 screen surface designed for high-resolution video up to 16K. The Tensioned Designer Contour Electrol screen system's battery-powered design is ideal for use in classrooms, meeting rooms, lecture halls, homes, and many other spaces where running wires behind a wall for power or control is not convenient or feasible. It offers all the benefits of an electric screen but with the flexibility of wire-free installation.

The ViewSonic LX60HD utilizes a single LCD imager, utilizing an RGB LED backlight system. ViewSonic has done an excellent job with the LCD imager found in the LX60HD. Typically, these imagers tend to produce a less detailed image with heavy blue overtones. While the projector still produces an image with a blue tone, it’s significantly less pronounced than that of other projectors using an LCD imager.

The LX60HD is not going to compete with the color performance of a home theater projector; it does offer some of the best color in a portable projector under $500 in 2025. The company's choice of LED light source is a large factor in the projector's color performance. This combination of LCD imager and LED light source delivers more accurate-looking colors than many single-chip DLP portable projectors I’ve reviewed in the sub $500 price range.

The ViewSonic LX60HD has five preset picture modes. These are BRIGHTEST, TV, MOVIE, GAMING, and USER. As I stated above, all the color modes run toward blue. The MOVIE and TV preset picture modes are the best for watching entertainment content.

Like several other Google TV-powered portable projectors I’ve reviewed in 2025, the ViewSonic LX60HD comes with a full-color management system (CMS). This feature is pretty much wasted on a portable LCD projector at this price. I would rather have a built-in handle or carrying case like JMGO includes on their projectors, for easier transport, instead of a robust CMS.

ViewSonic lists the LX60HD brightness at 630 lumens. Out of the projector preset picture modes, the BRIGHTEST and USER modes are the brightest, measuring 723 lumens, which is 93 lumens brighter than the manufacturer's published brightness rating.

The LX60HD is a surprisingly bright-looking projector, offering a light rating almost double that found in competitive portable projectors I recently reviewed from competitors like Formovie/Xming. This extra brightness helps the projector maintain decent highlights in brighter images, as shown in the above slideshow.

While not ideal for lights-on viewing on a larger screen, the 630 lumens of manufacturer-rated brightness is sufficient to allow for viewing on a 100" screen in rooms with low ambient light. Keep in mind that watching content in a room with minimal ambient light or in complete darkness will get you the best overall picture quality on the LX60HD.

The LX60HD’s relatively low brightness is a drawback when viewing darker content. I strongly recommend increasing the projector’s brightness settings, which will raise the black levels in the projector to become even grayer, revealing more details in the darker areas of the displayed image. ViewSonic does not include any GAMMA or BLACK LEVEL adjustments with the LX60HD.

Overall, I was surprised at the black level performance of the LX60HD. As you can see in the slideshow above, especially in the images from Spider-Man: Far From Home, this projector’s black level performance, although not stunning, is commendable for a portable projector in its price range and class. The LX60HD does not crush blacks and shows a pleasing amount of detail in dark areas, such as Peter Parker's black suit and the space walk scene from Passengers.

SMART FEATURES

ViewSonic_LX60HD_GTV

The ViewSonic LX60HD projector comes with several smart features that enhance usability and value. It runs on the latest Google TV OS, instead of the older Android TV. Google TV provides access to a library of over 10,000 applications, including streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and many others, directly on the projector. This eliminates the need for separate streaming devices in most cases, simplifying setup and reducing clutter. While portable projectors without Google TV can sometimes be slightly more affordable and offer features like built-in batteries, they often require third-party app markets and workarounds for software compatibility.

The Google TV interface is user-friendly and will appear familiar to anyone with an Android device. Google TV makes navigation and content discovery straightforward. Google Assistant is also integrated, enabling voice control for searching content, adjusting settings, and even controlling other smart home devices. If a seamless streaming experience, ease of use, and access to a wide range of compatible apps are priorities, a projector like the ViewSonic LX60HD with a fully integrated Google TV OS is an excellent option.

The projector's ViewSonic UIs are quick and responsive, but the Google TV interface can sometimes feel sluggish and choppy, especially if you try to move quickly through a menu. If anything is happening in the background, such as an app update, this will also negatively impact menu navigation.

On the plus side, I did not experience any application crashes or unwanted restarts. I had no issues casting content and applications, such as Netflix's Certified application, which ran great.

SOUND

ViewSonic_LX60HD_Sound$1

ViewSonic lists the sound system on the LX60HD as 5W x 2, which might lead you to assume that the sound system is stereo. I know I did. I used a variety of clips to test the unit's sound quality. While the sound produced by the LX60HD is more than loud enough and only displays a very small amount of distortion at maximum volume, it’s not stereo. All of my stereo sound tests displayed no clear left and right imaging. But it does get loud with limited distortion, so there is that.

There are only two sound settings available in the audio menu (not accessible from the Google TV interface): MUSIC and MOVIE. There are no bass or treble adjustments, nor are there simulated surround modes.

SUMMARY

The ViewSonic LX60HD stands among its similarly priced competitors in the $300 range primarily because of the 630 lumens of brightness it provides, Google TV OS with a native Netflix application, and easy setup AUTO modes (when they work). Despite my concerns with the clunky four environment menu implementation, so-so AUTO geometry modes, and choppy Google TV operation, the LX60HD’s brightness, color, and black level performance make it a strong contender for the best portable smart projector under $500 available today. If it had a handle, it would be even better.

Weighing just 6.8 pounds, the ViewSonic LX60HD is beautifully crafted in a multi-toned blue chassis designed as much for the living room as the backyard for movie night. While it's not as compact and lightweight as competitors like the Formovie Xming projectors we’ve reviewed, it is on par with portable units from similarly priced brands, such as Yaber, and even more expensive models like the Epson EF22. It is still small enough and light enough to carry between rooms or even homes.

Central to the LX60HD’s appeal is ViewSonic’s RGB LED/LCD technology that eliminates the rainbow effect commonly associated with DLP projectors. The projector’s 630 lumens of brightness allow it to display images bright and colorful enough to be used in spaces with a small amount of ambient light. For optimal color and black level performance, I highly recommend viewing in a dark room, if possible.

ViewSonic_LX60HD_Geo#1

The projector supports Full HD 1080p resolution. Although the LX60HD’s brightness may struggle in brightly lit rooms or when projecting onto large screens, it excels in standard indoor settings.

The LX60HD also features Google TV, providing access to over 10,000 streaming apps, including nearly all popular services, such as Disney+, YouTube TV, Hulu, HBO Max, and a certified Netflix application. In addition to the built-in streaming services, you can also cast video from a smartphone to a mobile device. The built-in speakers are not stereo, but they play loud enough to fill a small to medium-sized room.

This projector is designed to meet the diverse range of needs, from watching movies and playing games to browsing YouTube. Priced at $339 MSRP, but selling for less at retail, the LX60HD combines a powerful and competitive feature set, user-friendly setup modes, and an attractive design that has more in common with lifestyle projectors than portable ones. Is it perfect? No, but at this price, performance, and feature set, I highly recommend considering it as a portable solution for your next party.
