The Art of Home Theater Projectors

JVC DLA-X70R Projector Review is Posted

Greetings, the JVC X70 went live a few hours ago.  Still needs proofing, some additional content and images.  Enjoy. As many of you will expect, it’s a great projector – at least for 2D.  3D, not so much (still a bit dim).  Unbeatable black level performance.  $8K approximate street price, THX.   -art

Hi Issac, That’s about $1000 more than it sells for over here. Definitely comparable is the Sony VW95ES, but it probably is also about the same price. Reasonably close, for a lot less, would be the Epson 5010 or 6010 (or the equivalent Epson models, or perhaps the BenQ W7000. That would also be true for the less expensive JVC X30. The thing is I like the extra brightness of the Epson and BenQ, since 3D eats up roughly 3/4 of the brightness. The X30, btw, is designed to be brighter than the X70, but no match for the Epson at all, and the BenQ also has it easily beat. -art

      Greetings Issac,
For me the JVC and the Sony VW95ES are comparable. Each has advantages as I’ve mentioned in the reviews, and the annual Home Theater report. But, the Sony isn’t likely to be any less expensive. If you need a dramatic price break, I’d look at the JVC X30, and the Epson 5010 or 6010, or whatever they call the top of the line Epson in your neighborhood. Of those two, I favor the Epson, although I have owned two JVC’s and currently own an RS20 – a direct forefather of the X70.
