JMGO O1 PRO UST Smart LED Projector Review - Notable Features

LED LIGHT SOURCE

JMGO O1 PRO LED light source
LED light source for improved color

JMGO co-engineered the optical block with Leica. JMGO felt this was strategically advantageous because it takes a lot of optical and color expertise to get the best results  from an ultra-short-throw projector. The Leica partnership should help JMGO improve the 01 PRO’s performance in critical areas like brightness uniformity and color clarity.

The JMGO O1 Pro laser light engine

Leica's role in this partnership was to work on refining the optical design of the LED engine so the 01 PRO could deliver images with a stronger contrast, better focus, less stray light, and a shorter throw ratio of 0.21:1.

Marius Eschweiler, Leica's Global Director of Business Development

Marius Eschweiler, Leica's Global Director of Business Development, said,

"We (Leica) were very pleased to contribute (on the 01 PRO) with our extensive know-how in the area of optics and image processing to achieve… the best possible image quality. (At Leica), our philosophy is to concentrate on the essentials, this means color calibration and tuning. We have our own Leica (color) standards… typically targeting… natural and accurate color reproduction."

AI CAMERAS FUNCTIONS

Auto Brightness Control

JMGO O1 PRO automatically adjusts brightness
Automaticall adjusts brightness based on room lighting

Automatic brightness control (ABC) is a feature that uses a built-in light sensor to adjust screen brightness (luminance) in proportion to the ambient light levels of the viewing room. Auto Brightness Control provides increased viewer comfort and reduced power consumption of the projector.

Auto Keystone Correction

JMGO O1 PRO auto keystone correction
Automatically squares projected image if knocked askew

The 01 PRO offers Auto Keystone Correction as well as manual keystone correction. The Auto Keystone Correction function uses one of the built-in cameras on the projector to automatically square the image to the screen.

While helpful, tools such as Auto Keystone Correction should only be used as a last resort. I strongly encourage you to manually square the projector to the screen because while keystone correction (manual or auto) is convenient, it does reduce your overall image quality.

WIRELESS NETWORKING

The 01 PRO has built-in wireless networking for users who want to move the projector from room to room while still accessing the unit's internal apps and services.

APPLE AIRPLAY AND MEDIA SHARE VIA ANDROID

Quickly cast photos, videos, music, and other content you love from your favorite device right to your TV. You can also wirelessly stream videos, photos, and music from a compatible Android mobile device using Chromecast. Luna OS allows you to cast content via Airplay from  iOS to the 01 PRO.

SMART LUNA OS POWERED BY ANDROID

Luna OS
Luna OS

The JMGO 01 PRO comes with a built-in Luna OS that offers dual functionality. In Companion mode, the JMGO Luna OS is designed to blend in well in any environment. Simply pair the 01 PRO with a preferred streaming TV box or TV stick to enjoy your favorite shows. With the Alexa built-in, simply tell JMGO O1 to turn on the lights, search for movies or answer questions for you. A remote with a built-in microphone allows you to operate a wide range of compatible smart devices via Amazon Alexa or access the internal assistant on the 01 PRO. In addition to controlling the projector, Amazon Alexa also allows you to use your voice to operate several third-party items such as a set-top box, lights, door locks, curtains, etc.

You can access many other popular streaming services in Luna OS, including YouTube™, Netflix, and more. You can also download various additional apps from the Luna store.

SOUND CO-CREATED WITH DYNAUDIO

JMGO O1 PRO audio was co-engineered with DynAudio
Sound tuned by Dynaudio's chief engineer

The JMGO 01 PRO's audio system was co-created with Dynaudio and tuned by their chief engineer to deliver excellent sound with decent bass, clean dialogue, and very transparent highs.

The JMGO 01 PRO is both Dolby Audio and DTS-HD certified. These certifications look great on paper, but real-world performance is where the rubber meets the road. The 01 PRO has competition from similarly priced projectors such as the BenQ X1300i and others, so I'll be listening closely to how this projector sounds.

HDR

HDR projectors utilize tone mapping, which balances between maintaining bright highlight details and delivering full-screen brightness. A variety of information is embedded in HDR content that an HDR display uses to make picture adjustments.

HDR provides significant improvement in dynamic range as well as color. It lets you see more detail in the shadows and the bright areas while delivering more saturated, lifelike colors.

HDR consumer content is mastered for playback on a flat panel, not a projector, so it's produced at various brightness levels. Typically, most home theater projectors can't reproduce all the brightness in consumer HDR content, but there can still be visual gains when playing HDR content on a compatible projector.

MEMC TECHNOLOGY

MEMC compatible
MEMC provides smooth motion

Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC) is a frame interpolation technology designed to smooth out the blur in a 24-frames-per-second video. This blur is acceptable when watching movies; however, MEMC becomes incredibly important when watching content, such as video games that require a clearer image. MEMC technology uses an advanced, algorithmic technique to predict where a frame is in video content and, through the algorithm, insert an additional frame between each of the originals. MEMC technology is designed to give the 01 PRO microsecond-level processor response, so video content that needs it, such as sports, games, or action films, all look smooth and crystal clear.

4K INPUT SUPPORT

The JMGO 01 PRO can see a 4K signal being fed into it from sources such as 4K Blu-ray players and 4K media devices such as Apple TV 4K and others. This content, along with other specific data, is processed by the projector and converted to a Full HD displayed image along with relevant data such as HDR, Closed Captioning, etc. The 4K input feature provides the convenience of using various 4K sources without adjusting the source signal output to Full HD, letting the projector do all the relevant conversion internally.
