Art was able to attend the grand opening of Crestron's Experience Center, up in Cypress, CA, near the border between LA county, and Orange County. (about 45 minutes from our offices.
A great looking facility, classrooms, etc., but most impressive was the "display room" where they must have had most of the different products they make, all organized into areas. I was able to learn a lot in a short time. Of particular note, one part of a wall was dedicated to DMX control. Most folks who are familiar, are aware that DMX is used to control lighting, and is widely used in theaters, concert halls, by bands, discos, clubs...
We're already using DMX in our house/office, and ultimately make choose extron for the whole house aspects of automation, and then integrated all our existing DMX lighting into the home system so it can easily be controlled from everywhere and anywhere...
We are currently talking with Crestron, and a couple of their competitors, with plans to choose a partner for our upcoming 2 year automation project which will be documented and blogged on as we add more and more capability to the project, talk about issues and problems that come up, and ultimately, how it all turns out.

Cypress Grand Opening Hosts Hundreds of Guests for Tours, Seminars & Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Rockleigh, NJ, March 2, 2012 - Crestron commemorated the opening of its new Experience Center in Cypress, CA yesterday with more than 400 guests that included Crestron dealers, consultants, architects, lighting designers and specifiers, electrical contractors, vendor partners, media, and local government officials.
The southern California location adds another showcase facility to Crestron's lineup of nationwide Experience Centers and Design Showrooms. Crestron Experience Centers are the ideal setting for customers, dealers, designers, and architects to experience cutting-edge Crestron integrated technology in a fully-immersive environment.
There's so much more to commercial building control and home automation than what you read or hear. To get the facts, you have to see it for yourself. The new Experience Center offers guests an up close and personal behind-the-scenes look at the world's most pioneering control technology. The all day open house event featured educational seminars, group tours of the 5,000 square foot facility, product demonstrations, and an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Afternoon seminars addressed relevant topics such as "Grow Your Business with Crestron," "It's a Digital World" and "Integration with Apple®".
Guest received guided tours which demonstrated new Crestron innovations including CaptureLiveHD™ Lecture Capture System, Sonnex™ Multiroom Audio System, V-Panel™ 24" HD Touch Screen Displays, DigitalMedia™ High-Definition Video Distribution System and much more. Attendees also received a sneak preview of soon-to-be released Crestron shading solutions on display in the Shading Design Studio.
Prior to the evening cocktail party, Cypress Mayor Doug Bailey congratulated Crestron Executive Vice President Randy Klein and staff for expanding the Cypress location. "This facility will allow visitors to experience the technological innovations that have made Crestron an industry leader for more than 40 years," said Bailey.
Crestron Experience Centers and Design Showrooms are located in NJ at the Rockleigh world headquarters, and in New York City, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. A new Beverly Hills design showroom is opening in Spring 2012. Globally, Crestron operates Experience Centers and Design Showrooms in London, Frankfurt, Shanghai, and Beijing.
