XGIMI Elfin Smart 1080P LED Projector Review - Summary

Posted on August 19, 2021 by Kam Valentine

The Elfin is a Smart all-in-one Full High Definition (FHD) 1920 x 1080p portable LED DLP short-throw projector with an MSRP of $649. The LED light source is rated to deliver 800 ANSI lumens for up to 30,000 hours, giving you years of maintenance-free operation.

The XGIMI Elfin is feature-packed

The Elfin is built with the Android TV Operating System with 5000+ native apps. Smart features are integrated seamlessly. The on-screen menus are easy to navigate and are well laid out. The Elfin is loaded with popular streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and YouTube. In addition, the Google Play Store and Google Play Games are only a button press away for streaming and playing video games directly from the Android TV interface.

The newly designed chassis is horizontally oriented versus XGIMI’s typically vertical oriented chassis. The ultra-slim horizontal chassis and two-pound projector weight make the Elfin highly portable for road-warriors, military members on the go, students, conference room presenters, and pretty much anybody else who needs a portable all-in-one projector.

Enjoy big-screen entertainment virtually anywhere

Did I mention that this is a great-looking little projector? The gloss white chassis with rounded bezels look excellent and could blend into any room or stand out when placed on a table. XGIMI stated, “The ultra-slim (5cm) design ensures the focus will be on the picture and not the device. Matching your spaces is easy with its smooth rounded bezels that blend seamlessly anywhere.”

VALUE PROPOSITION

The XGIMI Elfin is an outstanding value! Of course, it is not a $99.99 Vankyo Leisure 3 Mini Projector, Portable Movie Projector. The Vankyo does not have the advanced technology of the Elfin. The $649 Elfin is a sophisticated all-in-one solution for home cinemas in a small package that allows the end-user to easily build a home-style FHD theater almost anywhere they want to go.

The Elfin’s horizontal chassis looks similar to the ViewSonic M2 and ViewSonic M2e Smart LED projectors which also have a more horizontal chassis. Projector Reviews has a full review on the ViewSonic M2. While the Elfin retails for about $100 more than the M2, it is noticeably brighter, more feature-packed and it supports HDR10+.

I’ve tested numerous small portable projectors, i.e., Epson EpiqVision Mini EF12 Smart Streaming Laser Projector, XGIMI Halo, Phillips PicoPix Max, BenQ X1300i, and the XGIMI Horizon series.

To me, the Elfin was like a combination of the Horizon and Halo; all three are Full High Definition (1920 x 1080 Pixels) smart all-in-one projectors. The Elfin has lots of advanced technology similar to the $1,099 Horizon but in a smaller, lighter chassis with less ANSI lumens similar to the $799 Halo. So, it comes down to what your priorities are for the projector.

If you want a bigger sound system or a much brighter projector, then you might go with the XGIMI Horizon Series. If you want something smaller and want something that can run off an internal battery for hours, then the Halo might be for you.

If you are looking for a slimmer solution that is packed with advanced technology, then the Elfin might be the projector you are looking for.
