Greetings,

AAXA P4X projector

I will keep this review brief, as it is supplemental to Art's full review, available here. Keep in mind that this projector is tiny, and it is only 480p. It is very portable and easy to use. In the time I spent with the P4X I tried a little PC gaming, but mainly stuck with the Xbox 360 and PS3. I wouldn't recommend this for PC gaming, because of the 480p resolution. It however does work great with the PS3 and 360. I mainly played Red Dead Redemption and Street Fighter IV on this little guy. As stated the lag (or lack of) was perfectly acceptable while gaming. The lag test results are available in my other P4X blog here.

I know this projector is geared mainly toward the traveling business person, and I think it would be best suited for that. It would also be well suited for gamers who are more concerned with portability, and resolution is secondary. I wanted to hook up the Wii on this projector, but unfortunately I did not have the proper adapter. Since the Wii is 480p, I am sure it would have looked amazing on the P4X. The color was great, and the brightness was perfectly fine in a room with a minimal light. Since the projector is rated at 80 lumens, I would not suggest anything larger than a 60 inch screen for gaming. If you have a completely light free room, then larger would be fine.

AAXA P4X projector

Greetings,

I just got my hands on this little guy, the AAXA P4X.  I have only had the time to do the lag test, but I plan on doing some gaming over the next couple of days.  I know this projector is not geared toward gaming, but it could possibly be a fun multi-purpose travel projector.  These are the results from the lag test.  When testing lag I use the same length cable, and the source is coming out of the same computer/video card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 580).  As you can see, the lag is minimal.  It passes gaming performance in this aspect, but we'll see how it does after a few hours of actual gaming.  Art has a full review available here, minus the gaming aspect of course.  See you guys in a few days, until then...happy gaming! (more…)Hey All! It's been quite a while since my last review, but I was able to get my hands on the Acer H6500.  It's a portable, bright, entry level projector that supports native 1080p resolution, and the price makes it an appealing option for those wanting a 1080p proejctor on a budget.   There are many strengths to this projector, but there are some weaknesses that should be considered before purchasing.  Read on to find out how the Acer H6500 holds up in the game room and how it compares to the GT750.  And be sure to read the conclusion! Greetings, Let me start with this, this is not a gaming projector by any means.  This Pico is tiny, and I mean SUPER tiny.  My wife, and daughter thought it was extremely "cute".  I guess that is the reason I was VERY disappointed with it.  It does have HDMI, but it is a mini HDMI input and they didn't bother to include an adapter.  Not to mention I tried two separate adapters, with three different HDMI cables and my PS3 would not display on this projector.  I tried messing with the resolution settings on the PS3 with no success. You are able to game on a PC, because the adapter did work for that purpose and the VGA works as well.  I put in an hour of gaming on my PC, and I realized that this was nowhere near satisfactory to game on.  I watched a movie on it as well, which is perfectly fine if you are looking to spend $400 for 480p.  Other than the size, and brightness for its size, there wasn't much I could find to like.  I will just get to the meat of things, because I know gamers would be disappointed by this purchase.  I know Art is putting in a review on this soon.  Maybe this is better suited for a business, or travel situation. The Good: Size (very small) Brightness (for its size) when plugged in.  You will lose a lot of brightness while running it off of the battery Lamp life is excellent The colors were very good while watching movies, especially for something so tiny The Bad: Built-in speaker is adequate, but not much to right home about The Ugly: Quite possibly the worst menu interface I have encountered The remote is poor quality, it's on par with the a remote control you get with an off brand car stereo receiver.  The button layout is poor, and a bit confusing as well Black level is poor Shadow detail is poor Overpriced for what it is, a more realistic price would be $149-$199 based on performance PS3 would not display through the mini HDMI port when I tried to game on it They claim you can project up to a 150" screen.  The picture looked VERY soft at anything above about 50 inches, and it would be difficult to place the projector to get a 150" screen Conclusion: I know this was just sort of a transitional projector review, as Art didn't have anything else I could take at the moment.  I was really let down by this one.  I have reviewed two other picos, and I was thoroughly impressed with the first, and the second was good, not great.  I am not sure what the appeal of this projector is supposed to be, I look forward to checking out Art's review.  I just want to know how this performs from a business aspect.  If you are a gamer, definitely pass on this one.  Pick up a QUMI instead, you'll be happy you did! - Ebenezer

Greetings,

First off, let me say for $1,000... (more…)Hi all! I was able to sit down last week and test BenQ's flagship projector, the W7000.  At ~$2500, it is a direct competitor to the Epson 5010.  I'm glad I was able to look at these two projectors soon enough after one another to make a proper comparison.  The W7000 projector throws a super bright and extremely sharp image and also includes features like 3D and frame interpolation.  Input lag has been a topic of concern with many of the newer projector models, read on to find out how this projector measures up in the game room! Greetings, I just got this big boy in, and I can't wait to review it. (more…)Greetings, The ViewSonic PLED-W500 projector. I really wanted to love this projector, but...I just walked away liking it.  I really enjoyed my time with the Vivitek QUMI.  Maybe it was the fact that the QUMI was half the size of the PLED-W500, and that made it more impressive.  The PLED-W500 is brighter than the QUMI, but I found I enjoyed the overall picture quality more on the QUMI.  I put a lot of hours on the Viewsonic, I practically beat Fight Night Champion and Brutal Legend on the PS3 in the time I had it.  I also watched about half of the movie Knowing on it. After all the time I spent with it, I was just pretty "mah" about it.  When I had the QUMI I projected a 60" screen while reviewing, with the PLED-W500 I went with a 70" screen.  Don't get me wrong, this projector is perfectly acceptable, but there wasn't any "wow" factor.  This projector is also street priced about $150-$200 more than the QUMI.  I don't see where the extra brightness warrants that much higher of a price tag.  I also noticed that there was a lot of lag time in between the PS3 switching resolutions, which was VERY annoying. Greetings, I have a few unexpected things happen over the last couple of weeks.  I was hoping to have this review up last week, but then life happened.  From what I have seen so far, I really like this little guy.  This time around I will be using my PS3 for gaming, and streaming etc..  I really enjoyed my first pico projector, the Vivitek Qumi, I am hoping this one will impress me just as much.   The price is a bit too high for my taste, but I will reserve judgment on that until I put some real hours into it. -Ebenezer
