Hey all! It's been a little while since I've had my hands on any new projectors, and I was really hoping Art would allow me to get my hands on this one.   Up until receiving the Epson 5010e, I had primarily looked at projectors in the  $700 -$1400 range.   The Epson 5010 retails for ~$2999 and I can tell you - it certainly performs like a projector in that price range.   I took a look at the Epson 5010's younger brother (Epson 3010), and I really liked the image quality, but it suffered from a bit too much input lag to recommend for any serious gaming.   I can say that the Epson 5010e is superior to the 3010 in nearly every fashion.    Read on to find out more on how the Epson 5010e holds up in the game room.   (more…)

Greetings, I was at Art's and got a sneak peek at the new BenQ.  I had the opportunity to play Uncharted 3 (PS3) in 2D and 3D.  Art also put on Legends of Flight in 3D.  I was really impressed with the 3D Blu-ray, and 2D gaming.  The 3D gaming seemed a bit better on this projector, but I was using a console (not a PC) and the 720p resolution was still hard to deal with on such a large screen.  It seems at this point and time you have to sacrifice brightness and resolution in order to game in 3D, whether on a console or PC.  I am hoping that they start producing some good 1080p, 3D games in the near future and that Nvidia 3D Vision has the capability of displaying them in their full 1080p glory.  Without waiting for months on end for projector compatibility updates to the 3D Vision software. I was pretty impressed with the BenQ overall, but Art did mention that the black level on the pre-production unit was not quite as good as the Acer H9500BD.  That all could change when he gets the finished production model within the next couple of weeks.  Also keep in mind that the BenQ is priced significantly higher than the Acer, so the Acer is still the better overall value. I should get a production model of the Epson 5010 to review for gaming in mid January.  I doubt the 3D gaming aspect will work on the PC *crosses fingers*, but I still can't wait to game on it nonetheless. -EbenezerI have been waiting for this release since I first read about it a very long time ago.  Oblivion was one of my favorite games for XBOX360 and remains among the top games in my favorites list.  No other game at the time had such freedom of game-play or massively beautiful landscapes as Oblivion.   Finally, five years later, Skyrim takes the open world RPG genre to the next level and proudly presents itself as a worthy addition to the Elder Scrolls series.   Read on for my detailed look at this marvelous game. (more…)Greetings, I swapped out both HDMI cables with new cables and of the same length (10').  They were the same length in the previous test as well.   I think I may have had a bad HDMI cable in the previous test.  All of the special features were turned off in my initial test, that is for sure.  It is the first thing I checked when I powered on the projector.  It looks like with all features off it is hovering around a 30ms lag.  Here are the results: All features off:

Greetings, I have put in a good amount of time gaming on this projector, mainly in 3D.  I have to say when I saw the sample 3D Nvidia stills I was pretty damn impressed...then I starting gaming. Before I left for Austin, I had a chance to sit down and play with the Optoma GT750 projector for a while.  Sometimes it takes a little time apart to fully appreciate what you had.  One thing is certain, seeing the Optoma GT750 reminded my how much I really enjoyed the GT720. I found it to be remarkably similar to its younger brother (the Optoma GT720),  In fact, I found them so similar it was difficult to take note of the differences without seeing them side by side.   (more…)
