Canon REALiS WUX4000 Projector - Brightness

The Canon REALiS WUX4000 is rated at 4000 ANSI lumens, and at that brightness you can bet that it will perform with lights on, and windows open. 4000 lumens is almost 40 percent brighter than your typical projector being sold today. Actual measurements of the projectors brightness actually show it to be even brighter. This of course is dependent upon the mode you have the projector set in.

Standard Mode, produced a brightness reading of 3036 lumens. The image was still incredibly bright and vibrant in this mode, but it is a drop of about 25 percent when compared to the next mode, Presentation. Presentation Mode put a big punch in brightness bringing it all the way up to 4204 lumens. Why it actually rated higher than the rated lumens I am not exactly sure. For this test I measured the reading using white light output. Most projectors often are never brighter than the manufacturer specifications and often you see about a 15 to 20 percent descrease in actual brightness compared to the manufacturers specs.

Vivid Video Mode came in at 3066 lumens, which is still very bright. Photo Srgb Mode produced 3066 lumens as well. Dicom sim mode dropped brightness considerably to 2336. This mode is used for showing monochrome images like Xray, or MRI. The projector has a lamp saving mode known as Quiet Mode, and this drops brightness a bit, but the projector runs quieter, cooler, and the lamp lasts much longer. A recommended mode to be in for standard use. Turn on high brightness when needed.

In the projectors Quiet Mode, with the Standard color setting selected, the projector produced 2890 lumens. A pretty minimal drop in brightness compared to the 3036 lumens in the projectors bright mode. Presentation mode dropped to 4015 lumens. Vivid Video Mode produced 2963 lumens. Photo Srgb Mode came in with a brightness level of 2949. The Dicom sim Mode mentioned above came in at 2029 lumens. Almost all of the settings showed just about a 100 - 200 lumen difference in brightness. Pretty impressive numbers and to the naked eye the image was sharp, and vibrant, and dynamic, in all of the settings.

Canon REALiS WUX4000 Projector - Audible Noise

Although the audible noise was rated at 36 dB in Quiet Mode and 39 dB in Normal Mode, the projector was very quiet. Most projectors fall into the 32 dB and 35 dB audible level and anything just a few levels up isn’t going to be an issue at all. This unit is typically located farther than normal from the audience, either higher up in the ceiling or farther back in a room, so audible noise should be minimal.
