Greetings all:   My name is Ron Jones and I am very pleased to have been invited by Art to contribute to Projector Reviews with a new blog focused on home theater video technology with an emphasis on new technologies, such as 3D, and associated issues/considerations.  My background is as an Electrical Engineer (MSEE) with 30+ years professional experience and as a home theater owner/enthusiast for 35+ years.  My home theaters have evolved through several generations of CRT front projectors to current micro-display digital projection technology.  I have my principle residence in Flordia where I have a dedicated home theater.  I'm currently using a JVC RS40 projector with a 120" electric drop-down screen, and using a Denon AVR3311cic AV receiver, a Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray 3D player, Directv HD-DVR as well as over-the-air reception, a Western Digital WDTV Live+ network media streamer player, and a 7.1 speaker system (using Infinity speakers).  I also have a JVC D-VHS HD VCR and a Sony Laserdisc that see very little use.  For my family room in that same home I am using a JVD DILA 70" rear projection HDTV along with a Denon AVR, Directv HD-DVR, Panasonic DVD recorder, WDTV Live media player, PS3, S-VHS and a 5.1 speaker setup. I have a summer home in WV where I also have a dedicated home theater that is currently equipped with an Epson 6500UB projector with a 120" Elite ezFrame fixed frame screen, Denon AVR2309, Directv DVR, Panasonic DMP-BDT310 Blu-ray player, a WDTV Live+ media player, and a custom 7.1 speaker setup.  For the living room in that summer home I have a Toshiba 65" DLP rear projection TV, an Denon AVR, Directv HD-DVR, Toshiba DVD recorder, PS3 and a 5.1 speaker setup. I plan to start off the new blog with discussions on the transition to a 3D capable home theater and to the technologies involved. I hope to give readers an understanding of the unique factors, issues and limitations that need to be considered for creating a 3D enabled home theater.  As part of these 3D related discussions I'll touch on aspects of many things, including alternative technologies for providing 3D, screen selection, compatibility of 3D glasses, the role of HDMI 1.4a, and other technical aspects of creating a 3D enabled home theater.
