Mitsubishi HC1600 Home Theater Projector: Warranty

Posted on October 1, 2013 by Art Feierman

The Mitsubishi HC1600 (link to specs) comes with a one year parts and labor warranty. There are no "extras", such as an overnight loaner, or replacement program, like those offered by a few others, including Epson (two years, with replacement program), Optoma (2 years), and Sanyo with 3 years including their rapid turnaround promise.

BenQ and Panasonic (the Panasonic PT-AX200U is the best selling 720p projector out there), are two other manufacturers that offer only 1 year basic warranties on their 720p competing projectors.

Personally, I like 2 year or longer warranties. Projector failures tend to be expensive. With an entry level projector like the HC1600, if it breaks during year two, and if you already have a lot of hours on the lamp, it's probably cheaper to just replace the projector, or at least close enough, that you might as well, and have the next model year's projector, with a fresh lamp and warranty.

Recommendation: Definitely consider a 3rd party extended warranty, if you plan to keep this. The price should be very low for one or two additional years of coverage. Of course, everyone is more comfortable with a factory warranty, but Mitsubishi does not sell extended warranties.
