The Bottom Line

The Viewsonic PJD5555w packs a lot of power into a small package at a small price. With its quality presentation abilities and low maintenance costs, the PJD5555w is a projector that will appeal to school districts and small businesses on a tight budget.  This is a truly no frills projector, but the money has been spent where it counts.  If you need networking abilities or a plethora of connection options, you better look elsewhere.  But if you want to project from your laptop or Blu-ray player via HDMI and get a sharp, colorful picture with good brightness, the PJD5555w will fit the bill.

The PJD5555w's performance was above average for its price range.  It has excellent brightness and its ability to adapt to different wall surface colors would be welcome in the office or the classroom.  The good black levels and depth of color with photos or videos in all but the brightest modes provide for enjoyable photo and video presentations.  Its performance with standard text or PowerPoint-type presentations is also quite solid.

The bottom line is that the PJD5555w has a lot going for it as a multimedia/business/classroom projector.  While its lack of networking capability and somewhat limited connection options might be of concern to some potential buyers, it's likely that such buyers would be shopping in a higher price range than that of the PJD5555w.  While we have not reviewed a direct competitor to the PJD5555w in its price range, a quick look at the competition (same price, brightness and resolution) shows that there are few that offer the lamp life and warranty of the PJD5555w.  For these reasons, the Viewsonic PJD5555w certainly qualifies as a Best Buy.
