The HU710PW is a midsized 4K UHD laser DLP measuring approximately 10.2 inches wide x 15.3 inches deep x 4.8 inches high and weighing 14.3 pounds. When facing the unit, the lens is located on the front left. The Zoom and Focus levers are located under a sliding panel directly above the lens. On the left side of the chassis are the dials to adjust the horizontal and vertical lens shift.
There are two stereo speakers, one located on each side of the projector. The air intake vent is located on the projector's right side, while the outlet vent is located on the left side next to the lens shift adjustment knobs. All the inputs and connections are on the rear of the unit.
The unit's external power supply is large and heavy, which is why the HU710 is notably smaller and lighter than the HU810PW, which has a built-in power supply. While the HU710PW’s large external power supply should not be much of an issue when the projector is placed on a table or shelf, it is definitely inconvenient if you plan on ceiling mounting the projector.
DLP
Utilizing DLP (.47″ DMD) with XPR technology, the LG CineBeam HU710PW displays 4K UHD resolution. While the DLP chip only has 2.1 million mirrors, each can be tilted in four directions to reproduce four individual pixels. The chip operates fast enough that our eyes simultaneously see all the 8.3 million pixels. DLP DMD chips are incredibly durable, with a rated life of up to 100,000 hours. Like all other DLP projectors, the LG CineBeam HU710PW has a sealed light path that prevents dust particles from settling inside and obstructing the projected image.
INPUTS AND CONNECTIONS
All of the inputs and connections are located on the rear of the HU710PW. There are three HDMI inputs. Two are 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0b inputs, and a single HDMI 2.1 input supports up to 24 Gbps allowing playback of 4K HDR content with 10-bit color and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) support. This 24 Gbps of bandwidth is more than enough to maximize the projector's full capabilities.
The HU710PW can also control connected devices such as an A/V receiver via CEC. This is a very convenient feature because you can use a single remote to control each connected device.
Other available inputs include two USB Type A ports, an RJ-45 ethernet port, and an optical digital output.

The LG HU710PW has a manual lens with outer rings for controlling both Focus and Zoom. With a zoom range of 1.6x and a throw ratio of 1.3 - 2.08, the throw distances can quickly be calculated based on the screen's width. For example, on a 100″ wide image, the throw distance would be between 9.51 and 15 feet.

REMOTE CONTROL
I'm not going to list each and every button, but I think there are several noteworthy features to talk about on this remote. First, in the middle of the remote is a Microphone button used for voice control of the projector and compatible third-party Internet of Things (IoT) devices via the LG ThinQ Assistant.
LG has dubbed this remote the "Magic" remote. It can function as a standard remote control using four navigation buttons to move around the projector's menus, but it can also act as an air mouse, allowing you to navigate the menus in a nonlinear fashion. This type of operation is nothing new to LG smart television and projection systems. I have to admit that I didn't care for it much when I first used it several years ago on a 65-inch LG flat-panel television. I really don't feel any differently now, but you might. My biggest issue is the air mouse's lack of accuracy. Don't get me wrong; the air mouse control is fine when selecting large icons in LG’s webOS interface. But for me, it fails when using it in the standard menus because they require more accuracy to select and control.
Air mouse functionality aside, this is a fantastic remote that allows you to control your set-top box, Blu-ray player, or other connected devices, including powering them on and off. While you may still need to grab the set-top box or video player factory remote to access a third-party unit's setup menu, the Magic remote has all the buttons needed for most everyday operations, including Power, Channel, and Playback Control.
I really love that LG has a motion sensor on the remote that turns on the handy button backlight. This is a great feature.
MENUS
The HU710PW offers an extensive but easy-to-use menu system. This is the same menu structure in their smart, flat-panel TVs lineup, which is well-organized. It also has two different menus: one for making picture adjustments and the other for accessing content, apps, and services.
The Home button, which looks like a house, allows you to access apps and other entertainment services. Once you are in the projector app menu, you can select a specific input, a streaming app, the web browser, a media player, or explore LG's Content Store.
The button that looks like a gear is the Quick Settings button which takes you directly to the Basic Settings menu. Pressing and holding this button will take you directly to the projector's Advanced Picture settings.
