This page contains comments on projectors that were considered in this year's Best Home Theater Projectors Report, but did not win awards.

Optoma HD142X

Optoma HD142X

The Optoma HD142X is a 1080p DLP projector with 3,000 claimed lumens, making it ideal for bright room environments where there’s not a lot of control over ambient light. Optomas are known for being great gaming projectors with relatively low input lag, so if you’re a gamer, hooking up your PS4 or Xbox One and playing your favorite games should be an enjoyable experience, whether playing online or campaign mode.

The HD142X is 3D capable, and has an MHL port for streaming sticks such as Roku, Amazon FireTV, and more. This Optoma has a great lamp life as well – 5,000 hours at full power and up to 8,000 hours in ECO. The HD142X did not win an award simply because it was up against some newer, more capable Under $1000 projectors, such as the Epson HC2100/2150 and last year’s Best Performance winner, the BenQ HT3050.

ViewSonic PJD7835HD

ViewSonic PJD7835HD

The ViewSonic PJD7835HD picked up an award two years ago, but is sadly no longer a current product. It was replaced by the PJD7826HDL in 2016. This projector did not merit an award last year either, as there are newer, more capable models by ViewSonic in the PJD projector family. The ViewSonic PJD7828 did happen to pick up an award this year: the Best in Class – Value Home Entertainment Award in the Under $1000 class.

The ViewSonic PJD7835HD is a portable bright room projector with versatile use – with 3,500 claimed lumens, it can be used as a home entertainment projector in a bright living room or media room, be taken outside for an outdoor movie night, or used in a conference room or classroom to give presentations. It has an MHL port for streaming devices, and very good color, right out of the box.
