Mike's General Calibration Notes

The HW65ES has an excellent picture with all the default settings. There’s almost no difference between Reference and User modes. Contrast is right on in every mode and Brightness just requires a bit of adjustment in certain modes.

Mike's Grayscale Calibration Notes

A number of modes are almost identical when it comes to default grayscale and lumen output. Reference, Cinema Film 1 and User modes all have roughly the same RGB balance that is good right out of the box, but that as good as the VW600ES we reviewed last year.  Blue is a bit high across the board, but not that noticeable in real world use.  Also, the RGB balance is also very consistent across the entire IRE range.  Before calibration, Delta E averaged around 4.5, which is good, but not great.  After calibration, the User mode came in at an average of 1.0, rising only to 3.0 at 20 IRE and 0.6 or under from 60 IRE to 100 IRE.
