Sony VPL-HW65ES Projector: Warranty

SONY VPL-HW65ES WARRANTY

3 Years - Warranty

Great warranty, but still not the best!

Sony provides owners with a 3 year, parts and labor warranty.  That's about as long as you will find, unless you buy optional service contracts or 3rd party warranties.

What isn't included in the warranty is any form of fast replacement or loaner program.  While I love such programs, they are rare in home theater projector space.

In fact there are only a couple in the industry, at least in the under $10,000 range.  Epson puts 3 years of replacement on the Pro series and 2 on their Home series projectors.  I believe Optoma is still putting a year program on their local dealer only top of the line projector.  BenQ had them when prices were higher but I don't believe they offer it on their W7500 - their current top of the line.

In this price range, two year warranties are the most common, but there are other 3 year warranties.  Of the most direct, major competitors, I already mentioned Epson.  JVC the other LCoS projector manufacturer, and definitely the most direct competitor, offers a standard 2 year warranty, one year less than Sony.  But one distribution channel for JVC does offer a 3 year warranty on their slightly different numbered models. They also throw in a spare lamp, but they charge an extra $500 for those two items.

Bottom line:  3 years parts and labor  is as long, and almost as good as you will find.
